Where to find thermax HD in British Columbia?
I'm wanting to build a Hexayurt this year. I want to get some of the Thermax Hd 4x8 sheets. Does anyone know where to get them in Western Canada? I live in Vancouver.

It's colder in Canada than it is in the US. I'd think you could find them at any home improvement store. You don't have to focus on brand, just look for 4'x8'x1" insulation panels that have foil on both sides.

I live in BC and had a hell of a time finding any thermax with the foil outer coating... I did find that roofing places carry something similar (not 100% sure but I don't think they have a foil coating. I can't recall the name, but there is a roofing/supply company just south of Brentwood Mall (south of lougheed and east of Willingdon) that had 4x8x1" sheets of Poly Iso insulation for a decent price. PM me if you can't locate it, I am sure I can dig up more if needed.
We ended up finding some 2" thermax recycled from the olympics... worked great!

I think there are Home Depot Stores in Canada. http://www.homedepot.ca
I tried searching the Canada site but couldn't find the product listed online. However they might be able to get it for you from a US store?

I found out that the home depot here in Vancouver can order in sheets of stuff called IKO ENERfoil
http://www.iko.com/shared/commercial/br ... erfoil.pdf
It looks good but its $42cdn plus tax a sheet.
Thats for 1.5 inch thick stuff. Its an option but pricey.
Hmmm what to do, what to do.....

Give these guys a call:

See what there price on IKOTherm is - these are roofing boards of the same material, but I believe are embossed with a fabric instead of foil... should do the job fine though and not blind you when you set them up or walk by them! ;)
If I remember correctly last year they were under $20 a sheet.

This is what we used last year for building hexayurts.
Note: This fabric makes you ITCHY! You will need to paint these or something. We covered the outside of ours with Aluminum radiant barrier, as we also used them during the summer up here in Canada, and you cannot get these panels wet.
As for the new IKO Enerfoil (seems to be a new product?)
You can get them at Roofmart for ~$23.

I'm in the process of finishing up an additional document on building hexayurts in canada.
PM me, and I'll send it to you when we're done.
Aviax - great info, thanks for sharing your experience! Would have never thought about those panels being itchy, but makes sense.
How did you adhere the foil? Would spray glue hold? Is that why the caution about getting them wet?
Thanks!

The foil was just taped on to the boards. So when you're taping the edges, you just tape the foil onto it... (so, since the foil is 4' wide, and the panel is 4' wide, you just cut 8 feet of the foil, and tape it to one side of the panel all around the edges.
The caution of getting them wet comes from the manufacturer... I'm guessing it'd have to do with the stability of the material (and possibly the material warping)

Thanks for all the input. SOo much for radical self reliance on my part. I called roofmart and they have the 1.5 sheets for 33.22 and the 1inch sheets for 23.86.
BUT they dont have them in stock. I was wondering if anyone here would like to do a group buy. Not that we will get a deal but I think they are not really interested in ordering the six 1inch and the six 1.5 inch sheets I want. I want to make the walls a little thicker for sound and durability. But if they were ordering more then maybe they will get them in quicker. And while were at it we could buy the tape in bulk where we might save some dough.
Anyone interested?

you should post your request for supporters in a group buy to the BM van Email list. most burner types in Vancouver use this list for communication:

Hey Gusthefuss, where did you get the bidirectional filament tape from? I can't find anywhere with decent shipping prices to Canada...

I bought it online and had it shipped to a friend in the states and then they brought it to me. Never had to deal with big shipping costs. Good luck!
