Ah to be a Birgin...
It's bound to be a much wilder ride than the first - at least if I have my way ...hmm I always have my way ;)
Greetings to all, this will be my first and I am beyond excited after having spoken with and read so much. I figure no better way to have a mid-life crisis than to experience BM 2011 it was that or a boob lift and I figure the girls can hang (literally) in there for another year or five :P
I am from MA and that should be reason enough to want to get away but seriously I am truly jazzed about embracing the vibe of BM, welcoming such a freedom to express, embrace and explore and look forward to making new friends in the course of it.
I will be heavy into the nub thread from what I've gathered this is not an event that falls into my normal "wing it" approach. Advice is always welcome via post or email.
Cheers
Mme Feu

Welcome to our weird little corner of the world!
This is an event that rewards both improvisation and planning. Most of the basic materials for planning are available through http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/, especially on http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/. When I first went to the playa, that was all I had (and it was briefer, to be sure). Then, when the dust storm hit, improvisation became rather important.

Hey Madame Feu!
You're right--this is not a "wing it" kind of event, but that sort of go-with-it attitude will actually serve you really well (once you arrive on the playa with all that you need to take care of yourself). Free spirits make friends with their neighbors the fastest. Duststorm headed into its 5th hour? You're probably dancing in it already. Can't find the event you were headed towards? You'll be that person who has an Epic 8-hour Wander instead (so always leave camp with water, sunscreen, goggles, snack).

Then of course, enjoy Q&A Tips & Tricks forum. Info for days! There's also a "Search" function at the top center. You can narrow your search by forum, which I strongly recommend.
Ways in Which Burning Man is Better than a Boob Lift
1. Cheaper
2. More fun (almost certainly)
3. Likelier to receive a compliment on your Poseidon costume
4. Anesthesia = optional
5. Can be entirely nude without having to explain yourself
6. Photos slightly more exciting

Madame Feu, what part of The Bay State are you from? I will be in Boston April 16-19 running the Boston Marathon. If you would like a few tips from a grizzled veteran (I've been to the past 12 Burning Mans) let me know. I am part of a modest theme camp in a little speck of the playa known as Barbie Death Village.

thank you all
I am reading all you've referenced. Hopefully I score a good bit of gear from the local sally's and a flea or two. Thank you again for the info. @ Mr. Pyro I may just indeed take you up on your offer as I'm about 30 mins from my old cradle (Boston).
