Postcard Art!

Post by Turnip » Wed Feb 23, 2011 8:56 am

Finally decided on what gifts I will be giving out at BM 2011.

I've always loved the idea of sending out postcards from the BRC post office. In 2009, we were poorly prepared and had neither post cards or stamps.

My plan is to get a good amount of custom postcards, and pre-stamp them, and hand them out as gifts.

Of course there needs to be some cool art or a compelling photograph. I don't want to randomly google images and find a picture that doesn't belong to me and reprint it without permission.

Any artists or photographers out there that would be okay with me using your art/photograph?

Of course be sure to credit yourself with a watermark or web address, whichever you'd like to add to your image to make you feel comfortable!

I have given both extra cards and stamps to the post office. They do have some to share. Last year I was surprised at how gol durned nice my post person was. I was ready to do a magic trick or offer a little bribe, and expected more or some attitude. hm.

I can't think of art to put on cards to hand out, I mean it seems odd to put someone else's art on a card and handing it out. Kodak sells a little printer that prints postcards. How about you take a pic of someone and print the post card with their picture on it, With a stamp on it the person who you gift the card can go to the post office and mail the card to themselves or whoever they want to. Now your gift will end up of refrigerators everywhere.

Have you thought about using Flat Smiley on your postcards? You could color him in any way you like or leave him B&W for folks to color their own. 8)

For my 2011 postcards, I searched flickr for Creative Commons licensed images and credited the photographer on the reverse side by name and URL. YMMV

That's what I've been doing. Got picture matching stamps, too. I use an image that I took the year before.
