Really, most anything Obama proposes isn't any more fundamentally counter to all of our overall best interest than McCain's would have been. Nobody of substance is proposing Soviet style communism just as nobody wants raw capitalism as what we had during the early industrial revolution. We've witnessed both, and they're both too extreme. It is unfortunate that the largest cities are always supposed the epitome' of local government. The major cities of this country have all been corrupted by and large due to Federal interventions of one sort or another. Organized crime in the U.S. matured due to prohibitions and legislating moralities. New laws always create new criminals. And to me,,,, lawyers being elected as law makers to legislate bills into laws is a guarantee their interests will flourish.
But then there are islands of communities that continue to function without all the drama even during these troubled times. You don't hear much about them because they simply keep to themselves and take care of their own. But that kind of news doesn't sell much Viagra, cars or beer.

I don't believe this. There are "free market" ideologues that would be happy to return that. They may not know what that means, or they may. Either way it scares me--how can people be that dumb?Packoderm wrote:nobody wants raw capitalism as what we had during the early industrial revolution.

I guess the discussion could go in several directions. One would be whether the end justifies the means. For instance, the transcontinental railroad was accomplished on the backs of Chinese labor among others who worked under horrible conditions rife with injury and death. Entire mountainsides of timber were harvested for ties. The railroad companies were given every-other section of land one mile on each side of the tracks. With current sensitivities, political correctness and ecological considerations, would this be allowed to be accomplished? Probably not,,,, but it is to our good fortune it was done!
Another direction the discussion could go is whether those who are able to work and do NOT should be afforded the same benefits as those who are not able to work. Add to that, the idea that captive criminals are often treated better than our elderly, some think going back to the old days is not such a bad idea.
Another argument can be made that "Capitalism" and "Free Market" are not the same. Capitalism is is an economic system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for a private profit. Free marketâ€

The people were quite aware of what was going on when they threw the Democrats out of office in Wisconsin. There are currently recall proceedings underway right now against at least two of the Democrats that ran to Illinois. All it will take is the recall of one of them. The point will likely be moot after the next election anyway as the Democrats need at least 19 seats to pull this crap. They have 8 seats in the Wisconsin Senate up for election in 2012 and so far it is looking like they might win only 4 of them.
Democrats were given a walloping of historic proportion in many states. It looks like this is going to be repeated on an even larger scale. One thing the people don't like in this country is having a minority in a legislature attempt to dictate their will on the voters. The people will simply throw more of them out the next election.
Democrats tried juvenile tantrums of this sort in Texas in 2003. It didn't work there either. The Democrats are not gaining any popularity out of this. Over 60% of the voters in Wisconsin disapprove of this tactic.
This isn't about "workers rights", this is about money. It is about tax money being funneled to unions who then kick back a portion to the politicians. This is about an NEA that blew $53 million in just 2007 and 2008 greasing the palms of Democrat politicians. They bought those politicians, now they are demanding their money's worth. That's all.

nawp. I disagree.
No matter what "system" is or would be in place, someone won't like it.
It's human nature, IMHO, to find faults with everything.
Agree or not, with the "discontents", the fact is, someone will not like anything you can do.
so, you just gotta do your best, for the most...........

So you believe it is okay to kill people, rob each other, trek through the wilderness without roads and communicate with no one?
You believe there is no reason for people to organize in a civilized manner?
You would agree that everyone should take shit where they please and have no regard for others?
You are okay with baby fuckers taking children to do with as they please?
