Tough Love or a mistake?

Post by Elderberry » Thu Mar 03, 2011 9:32 am

Did this bus driver need to resign or should the kid have been expelled from school for not listening to the driver and causing an unsafe situation for all the other students?

I thought this thread would be about DVD burner. I can understand the frustration. But driving a truck, I'd never tap a stupid motorist, to teach them a lesson.

If it were me, Id have stopped the bus and called the school, saying the little shits are going to be late, unless they shut the fuck up.

grew up in a world where it was the job of every adult to slap me up side the head if I was fucking up....

then they would call my parents..
repeat...

learned how to behave around adults...

and how to avoid them..

The mom needs a "tune-up" as well...Take some responsibility for your out of control kid lady, and instead of pointing fingers, raise your child to be respectful, and listen.
What other people think about you is none of your business.

Bus is way overcrowded, he should've at least had a monitor on the bus with that many kids. He knows he screwed up and quit. I think pursuing this would be overkill.

I'm way conflicted over this one. I agree with everybody here - those kids are out of control and this guy is trying to get control over a dangerous situation. But if that were my child he grabbed, it would sure bring out the momma bear in me. I wouldn't want his license, I would want to body slam him. I do hate the message it gives that kid though to see the driver punished when she was misbehaving in the first place.

Well, if she, or you for that matter, were as good of a mother as she/you thought you were, your child obviously wouldn't be acting out like that to begin with and wouldn't need to be disciplined by strangers. It all starts in the home/den. ;)

Parents are the ones responsible for diciplining their children...not the bus driver. In school, we were paddled if we got out of line. For him to yank that girl to the ground was excessive. Couldn't tell if the bus was moving or not, but if it was, he was definitely negligent.

The little girl didn't really seem out of control. I mean she wasn't flailing her arms around and jumping about. To me it looks like the guy just snapped and grabbed the closest available kid  I am sorry I know it's wrong to laugh...

Totally agree. But obviously this parent was negligent and someone with some common sense had to make up for mommy's deficiency.

I also have a thing about parents that take their small kids into a pricey restaurant and then the kid just starts screaming and bawling. I used to yell at the kid and the parents; but now I just start screaming as loud as the kid. It has proven much more effective.

The problem with many parents today is that they think their kids are all angels and that everybody has to put up with their shenanigans. I also love parents that take kids to grocery stores or out shopping and they let the kids play in the isles, pull things off the shelves, etc. and then do nothing but make excuses for them.

Now you got me started.

What ever happened to if you wanted your kid on the bus, you as a parent had to ride too x amount of days? Or find someone to fill in for you. That was part of my nanny job, riding the school bus on the days I put in to volunteer at the school.

I never had to take a bus to school but boy was that a good idea. But that was probably back in the day of two parent families where dad worked and mom took care of the domestic responsibilities.

Personally, I think every time a child screams or yells on the bus that the driver gets to take a shot.

That's one way to deal with obnoxious kids.

Here's another........

When I went to school our bus driver carried a paddle. And if things got out of line he would pull over, bring you to the front of the bus and 3 good whacks later that was the end of it. I saw the paddle get waved around a bit, but only used 2x over 3 years. I wish they would bring that sort of thing back but now we have helicopter parents who threaten to sue if their kids milk box is too hard to open.

Our Bus driver did this more than once when I was in grade school....a few minutes of not moving, and every kid realizing they were going to miss their favorite TV show or Sport (not to mention possible trouble once the parents found out) usually made believers out of us real quick (at least for the rest of that trip)...less of a consideration today with Tivo, Hulu, etc...but then, Teachers still spanked kids in front of the class who misbehaved every now and then (only when the bat came out or the kid was thrown into a locker and get a serious cut did any parents objects, and us kids knew it!)

Of course, once we hit High School, pity the poor fool Bus Driver that made us ride with them (we were bad!)

I just watched the video. I can see the bus driver's frustration, an overloaded bus filled with ill-mannered, disrespectful kids, however he had no right putting his hands on the girl and slamming her to the floor.

Over the years, and I'll start with the 80's, or the "do you want a time out" or "I'm going to count to 3" bullcrap, I watched a generation of kids learning how to become the boss of many families, and now there are young adults with this misguided sense of entitlement. Fast forward to the 2k years. Parents don't discipline there kids at all. Like jk said, people bring their brats to restaurants and allow them to run up and down the isles, scream, yell fight, whine, cry, jump up and down oin the booths and all they say is "Stop it put name here, then turn away and go about their business.

When I was a kid, my mom raised me and my brother by herself. She was a loving, caring mom. She made us tow the line! When we would go out for a meal, no matter where it was, we were to behave or else. We were taught respect or others and to this day I still show respect to others.

I'm a firm believer in giving a child one good firm swat to get their attention when they're acting up. Worked for me and my siblings.[/list]

Resorting to violence against children is up to the parents...questionably..NOT bus drivers! The parents may be to blame, so why make the kid get hurt? Like everyone seems to agree with..its up to the PARENTS to discipline their children! I got lucky, my kid is sweet as sugar, but if any stranger laid hands on him, id squeeze the shit out of his/or her guts!

I so agree. When I was in middle school, they had a swatting paddle. They sent memos home to get permission from the parents to swat their children. I know my mom said NO and if they ever laid a finger on us, she'd go down there and kick their collective asses! *haha* That's my mom! And when my boys were in school, I felt the same way.

Slap the parents too while your at it. They should have known better than to bring their kids into the restaurant in the first place.

Someone on Facebook just posted that they were eating at a Norms here in L.A. and some lady walked over to an empty booth and changed her babies shit filled diaper right on the table, walked away and left the shit filled diaper.

I predict that baby will need some slapping around when it gets older and the mom should have been slapped silly right there on the spot.

Were the child an adult criminal charges mighy be forthcoming.

Thankfully it's only a child.

From a strictly liability perspective why would any bus co., school district, no less an individual, subject it/them selves to the exposure?

Never mind the fact that one might do physical harm to an immature being who depends on adults for survival.

...to say nothing of negatively impacting one's karma scorecard.

Edit to make the wording vaguely sensical with debatable success.
