Friendly playans

Post by graidawg » Fri Mar 04, 2011 7:24 am

Is it just me or has the snark got more vicious, the responses less forgiving, the political discussions and the general atmosphere on her got distinctly more hostile lately?
just about everyone has seemed a bit more prone to snappish replies, or just general nasty butching, the people who usually are pretty harsh seem to have subsided their activities to be replaced by people who seem to take every little disagreement as an attack on the very foundation to their egos.
I have noticed this behaviour before in other places with a common tie between people who otherwise would never interact, when the winter is nearly past and it nearly time to start with the fun stuff, people snap easier and are more likely to fight (verbally at lest)

Having said that some of the threads on here are still a delight to read for community spirit and general fun.

just saying (thats the right way to finish these kind of posts i think)

Eplaya ebbs and flows. There is a deep history here, the mood and tone often can be disrupted by one individual, who brings out others who haven't been posting. Then their snark gets dumped here too. Eplaya used to be a battle zone, and we still go through phases of animosity.

The problem is, very few of the eplayans actually cross that line into TOS violation. Getting someone tossed is difficult, and rare. I agree that everyone but spammers has the right to post, and though some threads get deleted, it sucks when someone floods the board. We may not like what we see, but that doesn't mean they can't be here. Strains the principle of Radical Inclusion.

It has not gone unnoticed.

LATELY!? You've only been on eplaya lately. You've never experienced before. Ask your stupid question again when you've been here a few thousand posts and maybe been to the real playa, newbie.

Hang in there graidawg, they don't mean half the snarky stuff they say.

I'll save someone the time "eplaya is not the playa"

Try to enjoy the threads and posts/posters that are as close to "the playa' as possible, they do exist.

Exactly! The playa and eplaya are two different things. Take snark with a grain of salt. Half the time its un-thought out posturing...Ill admit I've made stupid remarks. Alcohol does that...In a way, its healthy though...learning to shrug off insults.

One thing to DEFINITELY put on your to do list is the M&G on Thursday evening, 7:30 PM at the BDC. This way you get to meet the ePlayans face to face. I put it on my to do list every year. I might even actually attend the M&G this year. I seriously hope to.

Yep, the M&G is a highlight of the burn for me. Only problem is that there is barely time to say hello to everybody.

If you show up at the M&G at 7:30, half of the ePlayans have already left. That's why we start at six and end around eight or so.

And Graidawg, I'll be in London on June 21-22 (and maybe the morning of the 23rd). If you want to see what a real live ePlayan looks like, I'll let you buy my a pint.

Last year was the first for me as well, even though it's been On My List since 2005. This year I'll get there earlier (I didn't make it until well after 7 and missed a bunch of people)

unless I get "distracted" again this year...

For the past two years the time for the BDC M & G simply slips my mind. I wonder if Doc could do some kind of reminder that evening right before it starts...like setting off a bunch of fireworks maybe
