I don't know if it's any worse/better than going up the 5. I know my first year I drove back on the 5 and it was a breeze. The 395 can get oooold if you're worn out and on your way back home.
The major grades are north of Mono Lake,,, that is why you go east on the 6 from Bishop and catch the 95 and 50 into Fernley,,,, much more mellow,,, and actually make better time with a heavy rig. Besides,,,, Hawthorne is such a trippy place! Twilight zone,,,,,,
I was thinking of doing that this year. I'm assuming there's enough gas/food along that way?

Yeah, there are plenty of little villages along the way. Most of the junctions have some kind of convenience store.

germain darling, that is illegal in Nevada, and discussion of such would be a violation of the TOS not to mention you are on a board which is monitored by the Locals, and the Federales as well as Kaptain Kangaroo.

now...i NEVER SMOKE MARIJUANA, AND I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND HIDING IT VERY VERY VERY WELL BECAUSE IT AINT WORTH THE TRIP TO THE POKEY CAUSE YOU GOT STONED AND SLOPPY!!

assume that they are out to get you.

never do anything in plain sight or smell that may get you in trouble.

just because it is burning man does not mean the laws dont apply...and a california medical card wont do shit in pershing county.

so...the answer is RADICAL SELF RELIANCE...

Germainbarbie, welcome to ePlaya. If it is your Dad's RV, I probably wouldn't bring it. It's gonna get dusty, and I mean DUSTY. He'll find dust no matter how hard you clean it.
That being said, my ex and I had a great little travel trailer we took out there 6 years. Awesome! Best sleep I ever had out there. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
The first couple of years was roughing it in tents and I do not want to do that again. Could not escape the wind, did not sleep well. That's just me.
The last two years we build a hexiyurt. It was great. Not nearly as nice as the RV but much better than a tent. Wind and rain were not a problem.

Also, first-timers, probably go on your own unless you KNOW folks that you want to camp with. You'll have an awesome time.

Nice one Trishntek, did he find his hat, probably not.

It looks like something out of Dante's Inferno, trekking for miles through a sandstorm then coming across folks ballroom dancing as if nothing weird is going on.

What happens when she raises her arms?

Personally, I do not find underarm hair offensive, specially if it is braided. :o

If it's a place listed on the BurningMan site, it should be fine. :) I have twice purchased my tickets locally. Once I was gifted, the other 7 times were mail order.

But you'll miss the atomic fireball...
