Nikola Tesla was a genius! Unfortunately he was swept under the rug, while we now enjoy the fruits of his labor.
I recall reading Tesla scared the government, something about too much unkown danger/power. A 'death ray' maybe enough power to destroy planets?

Or is it fear they'd destroy the oil families bank accounts? That must be it!

He supposedly designed an earthquake machine. Mythbusters tested it with suprising results.

The US tried to cause an earthquake by nuking a fault outside of Fallon, NV. Look for the spot on the map with the ominous land ownership of D.O.E. It however failed to do anything. AKA project Shoal

It was about as successful as Project Rulison, which intended to fracture rock in Colorado to allow for the easier extraction of natural gas. It was an epic fail too.
