picked up a package from Hong Kong containing color changing LEDs.
I got the fast change ones this time, and will see how they compare to the S L O W ones... RGB. Looks like a nice lady's hat is going to get some fiber optic flowers.

Looked over the selection of lights at Target. Nice, some beautiful strings, but all are at full price. The little $2 garden stakes seem like they could be useful if they held up.
Big Lots has them cheaper, some very similar.

Went to the JoAnn;s coupon sale, picked up camo tulle for a tutu for MyLarry.

went to Big Lots and purchased the dragonfly and butterfly LED string lights to use on our bikes (+ batteries) and also an umbrella LED light for our living quarters

AntiM camo tulle sounds awesome. I just used plain black, blue and green tulle for my bf's tutu (maybe I can make him another one :D)

If you bounce the butterfly lights around, they will break and fall off the wire. I plan to use mine on hats or at camp where they can't be brushed up against. I used one set on a trike and at least four are missing. I don't know if the dragonflies are as easy to bust up. still, they are pretty, pretty.

Camo tulle is not as cheap as the plain stuff. But it is pink and green camo, how could I resist? And at 50% off?!

Thanks for the heads up on the string lights. The plastic animal parts are pretty cheap maybe if we make sure to tie the plastic pieces directly to the bike via string we can minimize the damage (?) we will test it out on our home bikes pre-playa

Joann's coupons are great. I just printed up an email full of them so I can get a few small items to finish up the tutus.

I always thought it would be a good idea to carry a GPS unit with me in case I was lost in a dust storm. I picked up this small unit that clips onto a backpack. You can mark 5 points and have it direct you back there. I hope it works in a dust storm!!

What about a dab of 100% silicone caulk to ancore them to the bike?

It sticks stuff pretty good and is easy to peal off if you dont like how it works.

Shambala I've been looking at those as well. I may ask for it as a birthday present as I'm not sure I can justify the expense yet. Let me know if you test it in RL

FigJam is that something I can find easily while already on the west coast? If not, any idea if it is allowed through airport security?

If you go to your local hard ware store, you can find it in squeeze tubes or tubes that go in a caulk gun.

Its cheap so you can do some testing before you come west.

Dont know weather you can fly with it, but dont know why not. :?

they find reasons for anything now...ie. water purchased 10ft "outside" the security area not ok but water purchased "inside" the security area is ok (WTF??)

Thank you for the idea. I will look for it next time I'm at the hardware store.

Check the TSA website, they have a comprehensive list online.

The butterflies broke off at the solder joints, the bit of heatshrink on them wasn't enough to hold them on.

Maybe, I'll be testing our clear RTV once it warms up enough to work outside.

They're not that expensive at Amazon, and they have some other smaller models that might work well for finding your camp. Though I'm not sure they are that necessary. Though I might have considered it more seriously when I was new to the playa and the layout of the city.

Thanks jkisha. I've been checking them out on Amazon but other more important life things are costing me any expendable money I could think to spend on one especially since most eplayans tend to agree that it is nice to have but def not a necessity. :?

I usually never ask for gifts on my b-day so asking for this might be something that the bf would appreciate

Well, there is my 'one-click' item for Burning Man today.
I have put this on my list for later, though, truthfully I don't think I could get fatally lost trying to find Barbie Death Camp. And getting temporarily lost might be fun. 8)

continued work on the PVC bike/car.
Went through the "playa pile" and sorted by type, then made lists of stuff we had, went through list of stuff we need and prioritized. My need list and ken's need list are totally different lol. his says stuff like caulk, hammer, jack; mine says two more tutus, dark red lipstick/chapstick, fake eyelashes.

mine's more fun.
When the only tool you got is a hammer, every problem looks like a hippie.

Portal Burn

Post by EmilyD » Tue Mar 08, 2011 12:34 pm

Shambala, we sure could have used one of those GPS units last year for the Portal burn. It broke our hearts that we couldn't find it in the dust storm.

New tent! This thing is a beast, but my friend and I got a great deal on it. Plenty of room for my costume boxes to explode.

Just finished the new and improved playa swamp cooler.

It will cool anything on the playa up to 3000 cubic feet. (See cooling your tent or van)
