The other side of this coin is what do you do when you are out somewhere and see a parent beating on their child? If I see violence that goes beyond a swat on the bum, I get involved. Saw a mother smack one of her kids (about 10 years old) across the mouth while simultaneously screaming at the top of her lungs at her at a fast food joint recently. Had to tell her and the kid that what I just witnessed is against the law - you could tell she has already had a run in on child welfare issues 'cause she immediately backed off, shut up, and scowled for the rest of their meal.

ok lets try another angle, who gets sued when the bus crashes because some kids starts screaming and distracts the driver?
or if some kid gets hurt because they are acting up, and the driver has to brake hard causing the kid to fall over?
70 kids i beleive that driver said where on his bus, and as far as i could see, ther where at least 3 to a seat, so who gets the blame when things go wrong? if the driver cant do anything to control the kids then he shouldn't have any responsibility for anything that goes wrong.

I also find it interesting there was cctv on the driver was there other cameras on the bus? what about the kids at the back can they be watched?

If the parents are incapable of making sure the kid cant behave in a responsible manner, especially when aithority figures can see they should expect the kids to be punished, gos knows i got in shit enough times for other peoples crimes, and other people got punished for mine when i was at school.

so in brief, if your kid gets a clout round the ear or punished in a situation when there could be fatal - thats FATAL consequences tough shit, take them out of school and teach them yourselves. or go to private schools.
Ever try driving a car with someone screaming in your ear, try it with 70 kids doing just that, if i was that driver i would have thrown the fuckers off the bus and told them ring there fuking mommy, because i don't want to die because some little shit is fuking around behind me.

when we were kids we had better have behaved on the school bus like little ladies and gentlemen, or we'd hear (and feel) the wrath of my dad when he got home from work. Plain and simple. We knew it was either gonna be the paddle or a weeping willow switch.

Don Juan thought it was better to get strangers to beat up on your kids than do it yourself.

Well damn. If the driver has to monitor the kids... Who the fuck is watching the road. This is one big lawsuit waiting to happen. The driver is the driver, his only job should be to drive the bus. The need to at least 1 monitor on that bus.

News flash -- children are loud.

My bus route in school for a couple years was about 20 slow miles along the California coast. Some kids had another 10 - 20 miles along the far end of the route. Unspoken agreement was that if we didn't piss off the driver, he'd stop at a local tavern for a few minutes so kids could get candy bars, and the driver would get something at the bar. Good times!

How come kids don't have to wear seatbelts on a bus?
(other than the fact that there aren't seatbelts installed)

I've wondered that myself,,,, I'm sure there's a lawyer, a bean counter and an academic involved in the answer. One guess would be that it would limit the number of passengers to the number of seat belts. I'm certain that is one consideration of the lawyer. The bean counter wouldn't like the cost of installing and assuring every belt remains in working order. The Academic would probably consider it some kind of kidnapping or unreasonable restraint by authorities.

It's all about a concept called compartmentalization.....

The true safety of a school bus lies in the 'compartment' formed by the high back of the seat behind the child and in front. Seat belts don't really increase that safety but they do represent a real risk of hindering the child from being able to escape in case of an accident.

Swiped from Askville by Amazon....or you can learn more by doing a Google search...

If you want statistics and more stuff I have all of that but I'd have to dig it out and I'm just too lazy to do that on a Saturday night. Sorry.

plus with 70 kids on a bus, with only one adult, who would be there to make sure the little guys kept the darned seatbelts on?

that was simply way too many kids without enough adults and a driver that had a very bad day and he is going to have a lot more bad days for a while.

due to a pretty rough childhood, I make it my business when i see a kid being attacked and am a very quick dialer of 911. if that's how the fuckers act in public, imagine what happens to that kid behind closed doors.
