Ideas for Playa Art Projects

Many of us have the occasional art idea that we don't want to do, but post on eplaya so that others can (if interested) do it instead.
This thread is to gather them up into one place.
And possibly brain storm them into even better ideas.

There are four basic rules in brainstorming. These are intended to reduce social inhibitions among group members, stimulate idea generation, and increase overall creativity of the group.

1. Focus on quantity: This rule is a means of enhancing divergent production, aiming to facilitate problem solving through the maxim quantity breeds quality. The assumption is that the greater the number of ideas generated, the greater the chance of producing a radical and effective solution.
2. Withhold criticism: In brainstorming, criticism of ideas generated should be put 'on hold'. Instead, participants should focus on extending or adding to ideas, reserving criticism for a later 'critical stage' of the process. By suspending judgment, participants will feel free to generate unusual ideas.
3. Welcome unusual ideas: To get a good and long list of ideas, unusual ideas are welcomed. They can be generated by looking from new perspectives and suspending assumptions. These new ways of thinking may provide better solutions.
4. Combine and improve ideas: Good ideas may be combined to form a single better good idea, as suggested by the slogan "1+1=3". It is believed to stimulate the building of ideas by a process of association..

A few years back, I thought of creating an evil, bat winged skeleton...that would be encased in a paper mache effigy of Oral Roberts or George Bush. As the paper mache burned, the metal skeleton would fall into place...wings out streched. Then I got divorced, and didnt have the balls to ask my ex-father in law to weld the steel skeleton for me.

Anyone remember bouncing in their "Johnny Jump Up" as a small child?Well I think it would be a great idea to make an adult size Johnny Jump Up possibly with a trampoline under it.Imagine it!? we were watching our grand daughter swing in her infant swing and thought WOW, wouldn't that be great. we will work on that, but i'm thinking it will be more of a 2012 installation.

I heard a rumor of a 300ft Penis somewhere else on the ePlaya. I think this would be an awesome art piece, even at a 1/4 of the size. Probably been done though so I would imagine it would have to shoot flames or something.

talking with my kids today about Japan. I guess it's really the first tragedy that is making them realize their frailty. An event that REALLY snaps them into thinking how insignificant they are in the human realm and how easily life can just be gone. a rite of passage of a sorts

That conversation evolved into events that empowered them to start making a difference in the world around them. sarah recalled a fellow student stealing her lunch and her figuring out it wasn't out of meanness, the boy simply had no food at his home. got her working at the food bank. that sort of thing.

anyway, all that got me thinking of rites of passage in a different way.

Solar Pyrography

Using magnifying glasses; also the lenses salvaged from dismantled old telescopes (these burn much hotter)

Burners could burn art into wood scrap planks, large pieces of wood, cork and also leather.

This could be a theme camp idea or an interactive art project.

I like the solar energy and burning of art combination.

Solar cooking... fry some bacon with a bunch of lenses focussed onto a big cast iron pan/platter of good bacon.

Maybe ask Goat Head to recommend a proper lense or grouping of lenses.

Moonrise's Solar Cooking idea could be mingled with RITES OF SAH-SAGE theme ... swap bacon for Chicago Polish Sausage - quartered, cooked under lenses, and maybe branded with "Terms of Sah-sage"... Like OINK, GLUT, PORKSTICK, or The Man knows what-all you'd come up with that would look hilarious being devoured by hungry burners...

My girlfriend said in 1999 she saw this... I thought it was great.

You wait till someone goes into a porta potty. Then quickly lay out a red carpet have a bunch of people to play trumpets or a small band or something then when the person comes out of the porta potty a group of people crown you and maybe put a nice cape around you and cheer you for you!

She also another time came out of the bathroom and started teaching aerobics to all the people outside the pottys (she used to be an instructor) and every one started doing the routine!

i would like to organize this i am bringing a red carpet and a trumpet and a couple of bugles for people to play all i need are interested crowds of people to cheer.

No, don't. Good ideas are good ideas and there are always going to be differences, subtle or grand, in the execution.
Besides, it hasn't been done for every single person on the playa yet.

Make a tunnel out of pvc and fabric. Some fabric dark and some light. Imagine walking thru, and there are different sound loops as you go to help you experience the passage.

I think it would just be great for someone to make a Giant Burning Mama,laying on her back ,feet in sturupts.Burners can climb down through her belly button into the womb...then when they are ready... be reborn on the playa,by climbing out the giant vagina!!
