Survey about Religion and Spirituality at BMan
Greetings Burners Everywhere!
I'm seeking Burning Man participants to contribute to my ethnographic survey on spirituality and religion at the Burning Man festival. I hope to gather a wide variety of ideas on these subjects--from *all* perspectives. Why? Well, the parallels between Burning Man and "religion" have been noted by many folks over the years, but so far no one has undertaken a serious study of this association. I seek to fill that gap.
A bit about me--I'm a doctoral candidate at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and I'm writing my dissertation on Burning Man. I've been coming to Burning Man since 1996, and so have been a participant first, and a participant observer second. I volunteered for several years with the Media Team and have camped with the Blue Light District on and off since 1997.
I hope you will take a few moments to complete this questionnaire:

I estimate this will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Your identity will remain anonymous in any printed materials resulting from this survey unless you specifically state that it is okay to refer to you by the name you provide. And please feel free to forward this far and wide.
With much gratitude,
Lee Gilmore

Have a nice shade shelter, comfy chairs/rugs to sit on, and a tub of icy cold beverage cans (something nonalc in there too please for me) out there and I will stop by some afternoon and fill out your survey. No time now...projects are calling.

Sensei, you might appreciate this Zen koan from the sayings of Master Joshu:
Nansen saw the monks of the eastern and western halls fighting over a cat. He seized the cat and told the monks: `If any of you say a good word, you can save the cat.'
No one answered. So Nansen boldly cut the cat in two pieces.
That evening Joshu returned and Nansen told him about this. Joshu removed his sandals and, placing them on his head, walked out.
Nansen said: `If you had been there, you could have saved the cat.'

OK. That's more like it. The following is a list I've compiled (I'm at work now, so don't worry - I'm getting paid for this shit) of people who have made appearances in this thread, but have not confirmed that they took the durn survey. Not that you have to confirm that you took it, I'm just sayin'...
BAS - no excuse
DVD - no excuse
Glittering Clitoris - OK, your a damn sock
Simply Joel - AWOL
Rian - biggest mouth on the board; no excuse
Rob The Wop - no excuse
Tancorix - home for once - no excuse
Tiahaar - not that busy
Technopatra - no immunity
Jeez people, FAT Sam show up just a couple of days ago, and boom! He's already taken the survey. Who want to step up the plate next? Hmmm?

wisdom of the ages...please be brief
okokokokok. Done. Though each question could be expounded upon to fill volumes...the Cliff's Notes version was a couple lines each. Of course essay questions were everyone's favorites on tests right? Sure brings back memories....

atossab - check
DVD - check
Fat SAM - check
Silver 2 - check
Simply Joel - save the sarcasm, soldier. You volunteered. - check
Tancorix - check
Zulegoona - check
ALRIGHTY THEN! The following is a list - not a loser's list (well, not exactly a loser's list anyway) but just a list of people who are going straight to hell. Sorry. Let me try that again...
The following list of losers... Oops. Once more.
The following is a list of those who, for reasons of their own, have not confirmed taking the survey. And that doesn't make them losers, so you can stop calling them that. They don't like it. How would you like it if I called you loser? I didn't think so. Of course, you took the survey so you're not a loser. As I was saying...
BAS - no excuse
GlitterPuss - no excuse for A.Z.
Rob The Wop - now officially AWOL
Technopatra - again, no immunity
Rian ( a little less talk, a lot more action) Jackson - Once again, biggest yapper on the board, but just a lot of hot air in this thread.
Others who are conspiciously absent (Sensei sees you sitting waaaay in back):
Badger - no excuse
Bob - gone - excused
Diane o' Thirst - no excuse
joya - no excuse
Purplekoosh - no excuse
theCryptofishist - no excuse
Samtzu - no excuse
Stormy - no excuse
stuart - no excuse
C'mon people! Straighten up and fly right. Don't make me walk back there!
