Yeah, I can't have a dollop of tomato in any form without pain, but I can eat three or four french fries safely. Potatoes just aren't as mean to my joints. If I indulged, then yes, it would be bad.
Ginger does rock if you have inflammation issues.
Sodium benzoate/potassium benzoate gives me flu-like symptoms. Fatigue, muscle aches, stuffy head, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Like I'm coming down with a bad cold, but it never quite happens. The doc was going to treat me for chronic fatigue when I figured it out. He thought I was a hypochondriac, but I've tested it with diet sodas. Not my imagination. Diet sodas can be evil, I buy the new truvia sweetened ones or drink full sugar cokes.
I harp on it a lot because I think more folks are affected by it than anyone realizes.

Hmmm... Lately (the past 3 weeks) my left elbow has been hurtin' something fierce. I thought maybe it's because it's cold out and maybe I'm getting arthritus. But it feels like a tendon, not a joint. I don't drink sodas, but the past 3 weeks I have been drinking those sugarfree monster drinks, red bulls, rockstars. About one every other day. The big one, of course. I like the way it jet-boosts me into hyperdrive.

Just wanted to post and give my support for everyone here who is trying to live a healthier lifestyle.
I had a change in jobs and will need to get a physical for insurance, so I wanted to make the change and live healthier, shed some pounds, hopefully lower my blood pressure and feel better about myself.
I probably took up jogging on the beach a little too fast and messed my Achille's tendon, but hope to get back to some walking and then eventually running again.
There will be good days and not so good days, but keep with it.

LET'S DO THE MONKEY DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good morning!!! Man, I have about that much energy this morning!
My doctor changed my meds about 3-4 weeks ago, and I have been running on a 290mph full-blown woo-hoo non-stop fast manic train for the past 3 weeks. I'm pretty used to these. I actually like them. It's like being on natural mother earth speed. The energy is incredible. I survive on 3 hours sleep a night. Some nights I don't sleep. I stay up all night reading books or cleaning house. The thing I have to be very cautious of is what goes up must come down. In the past, the downside of manic episodes have always included severe body crashes, followed by deep depressions, followed by lets-not-go-there... I have to be really aware of this and keep an eye on it. Well, my body finally crashed yesterday at 6am. WHAM. I slept all day solid until 10pm last night, went back to bed at 3am. Woke up at 10am today. I was almost a bit scared... I peeked my little eyes open as I laid there in bed and just felt my world. I smiled. I giggled. THEN I JUMPED OUT OF BED. There's no depression! This equation doesn't make sense, and I am glad! Maybe we got this shit under control now!!! I'm back on the train but today it is only going 125mph, so if anybody needs their house cleaned or yard work done.....

damn those monkeys have more coordination than I do. If I am ever on a cliff or high ledge I might as well just jump because I don't have much balance either. Still working out with KAIA Fit 4 times a week and trying to treadmill on the other days...
MonkeyPoo, glad your feeling incredible and have a great day

Hey all. Earlier I had a great taste sensation. OMG. This thread is about Good Nutrition too, right? I took two friends to lunch here at Ellie's Mutt Hut & Vegetarian Cafe on State Street. I had a cup of butternut squash soup and the cashew chicken salad with tahini dressing. It was incredible. Food is just so incredible sometimes.
I'd give anything for that soup recipe.

Oh yea, I recall that sic pup. After the 10 feet of snow melts in my yard,
I plan to have a HUGE yard sale, what's left get's donated to burners, then the goodwill.
@sic pup, you have one THE BEST avatars! Hilarious!! LOL

Heya Poo, it's a fitness club, we can chat while we're exercising.
Just like a REAL fitness club.
Ginger rocks! Eat your ginger, use it to make tea, fresh juice etc.
We also food bash here, watch out for the deadly nightshade foods.
(Tobacco is deadly nightshade too)
AntiM says Tomato is the worst, causes pain. Fuck, I miss ketchup!
I think she's nailed quite a few pain inducing foods, thanks M!
Poo, I know a primo butternut squash soup recipe (I'll PM ya) easy and goumet.

unjon, good on ya!
i've lost a couple of pounds and a couple of inches. Not as many as I hoped for but I'm headed in the right direction at least. Weekends are such a killer for me though. I have to really focus not to over indulge on the food/drink and not under indulge on the exercise... keeping myself busy really helps. Got to start crafting again soon

I seem to be safely below 200 pounds now. They weigh me every time I set foot in the medical building, and it's been 196 to 199 for weeks -- with full clothing. Time to shoot for 190.
I'm participating in a program called Live Well. They are teaching me exercises to improve my posture and reduce various pains, nutrition (more fiber and water!), and more along that line. They think I may be able to ride upright bicycles again if I correct my shoulder/neck posture. Also getting Physical Therapy for my bum knee. Life is looking up!

I have been walking during my 15 minute breaks at work (both of them). and I mean walking HARD. Plus kenman and i starting riding the bikes up to the gate and back each night. I lost the 10 lbs i needed to for my son's wedding, just have to keep it off one more week!
any time i mention Diet, kenman goes and buys three gallons of ice cream. If i never mention the D word, and just don't buy crap then he does fine. something about the D word makes me panic and go buy sugar, and then i have to eat it too.
You know i've never liked to use smileys before i started posting here, but i really love that little eye rolling guy

(Rolling eyes.) Why not do what I do? A month from today I will be running the Boston Marathon, for the fourth time. I assure you, if you train for and complete a marathon, even some pussy marathon like the New York Marathon or Marine Corps Marathon, you will lose weight and, in spite of your sordid and slovenly lives, will lose weight. And you can be really obnoxious to everyone around you because, by deffinition, you are better than they are.

I'm just simply better than you without training.. @ 73yrs an hour on the bike trainer and a few arm curls will keep me in shape to ride all day at BM11.. Must stay in shape to insult flame doctor at M&G 2011Dr. Pyro wrote:(Rolling eyes.) Why not do what I do? A month from today I will be running the Boston Marathon, for the fourth time. Forgive me but this visual just popped into my head:unjonharley wrote:I'm just simply better than you without training.. @ 73yrs an hour on the bike trainer and a few arm curls will keep me in shape to ride all day at BM11.. How about this visual?

That you, Doc?
(I wish they had used a female runner, but that's off topic.
Now, keep in mind that the original Marathon runner died of exhaustion. Maybe ancient Greek soldiers were not in as good a shape as Dr. Pyro is!
All right, it is hugely impressive to be fit enough to run Marathons. If I could live my life over....
Here is an update for those who have not been to a gym in some years. Gyms now have recumbent stationary bikes. They are not quite as recumbent as real recumbent bicycles, but they are much more comfortable that conventional upright models. And some of them have cranks for hand-"pedaling" also, which gives me a good arm and torso workout. Definitely recommended.
Oh, one more thing.... Can somebody teach me how to live a sordid and slovenly life like Doc mentions?

Continued progress!
I scaled at 196 yesterday, in full street garb. This in spite of eating what-I-thought was a bit too much the last few days.
But I am being careful not to each much late in the day, and I seem to be developing a bit of an appetite for breakfast instead.
I conclude that managing my appetite gets easier the further along I get. I really believe anybody can do this, with just a serious determination to get started.

oh god AntiM that's kind of funny but hey if you get a discount then why not. I am now at the age where I start to notice those commercials about retirement/insurance and shit. Not that I am even close to retiring...
I've heard that dark chocolate is good for blood pressure, the darker the better but it should be at least %70 cacao
I've heard that dark chocolate is good for blood pressure, the darker the better but it should be at least %70 cacao
Chocolate is good for E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!
I joined AARP for motel discounts, but dropped it because of all the junk mail. Heck, they let you join at 50, so it doesn't mean that you are an "old-timer" yet!
My pressure is below 120/80 these days. Cannot help but believe that slimming down helps the BP. Go AntiM, go!
