Let them fight, or stop the fight?

Post by ibdave » Wed Mar 23, 2011 12:13 pm

So this little town of Ceres, Ca. which is right next to where I live is making the headlines and I wonder what you think about how we would approach the situation as reported and youtubed...

Ceres mom faces charges after allegedly encouraging fight posted on YouTube

A YouTube video of two boys fighting landed a Ceres mom in trouble after investigators said she could be seen and heard egging on her son.

Police said they received an anonymous tip about the video, uploaded on the popular online site, on Tuesday.

They watched the video, which allegedly took place at a Ceres home, and identified the woman in it as J... Z..., 33.

She was arrested later Tuesday and faces charges of child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to a Ceres police news release, Z..... was "yelling and encouraging her son to batter the other juvenile. Jennifer is heard yelling a barrage of profanities and enticing the fight."

The boys, who appear to be teenagers, can be seen exchanging punches and wrestling around on the ground. On at least once occasion a woman can be heard urging one boy to quit wrestling and keep throwing punches.

The fight halts briefly a couple of times but then resumes as the woman implores one of the boys to continue.

At least four other children saw the fight, police said. They also could be seen in the video.

Detective Darren Venn sought help from officer Sergio Jimenez, who works with local schools, to identify the children involved.

Police are still investigating the matter. They also are looking for a good Samaritan seen on the tape challenging Z...... and putting a stop to the fight before anyone was seriously injured.

I think the authorities are in the right. The mom deserves what she gets. Despicable conduct for a mother.

IMHO, they should through the book at the mom, and I use that term loosely. I'd separate the teens and get their stories about how this all came about. if the mom's teen was underage, I'd remove him from her custody until she went through a random weekly drug testing and a mental eval.

I was appauled by the video. the woman should be bitch slapped. I would have called the police to get them en route, then stopped the fight.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Ive always told my son to walk away from fights, and got him started in Shotokan karate at age 10. ? Now almost out of High School, he hasn't been in a fight yet... *knock on wood*

This mom seems to be living out an adolescence she never grew out of...and for her to use her son is disgraceful. Lock her ass up! As for the kid, he may need some rehabilitation. Hopefully he has grandparents, with level heads.

Off topic AND none of my business, but some martial arts training doesn't deal with enough real world self defense, and that is still needed, psychological and physical skill.
I've avoided some fights due to martial arts training, and that's always good.
The way I see it, you want to be overestimated (if anything) to avoid a fight, but when it becomes physical, you want to be underestimated.
Strategy and psychological preparation is at least as important as the rest.
If I am underestimated and attacked, I will always win.

There are very strict guidelines we all learn, but every conflict is in flux.
What works, is the right thing to do.
That's what I told a woman that bit her carjacker here.

I recently turned my back on a deadly threat.
They turned and ran.
We all have to make these decisions ourselves, and in real time.

I strongly recommend the book 'Kill or Be Killed' for the psychological as well as the self defense aspect.
Obviously as a military manual, not all of it is useful in normal life.
Very effective real world training.
That book and the ranger self defense training I took with it, is what I go to in a physical fight, in spite of martial arts I learned with it.

It is amazing what sticks though.
I used a flying roundhouse effectively once after not even practicing it for twenty years.
I don't know who was more surprised.

Thoughts from someone that prefers not to fight.
That's what makes me dangerous to push, too, as I only know one way to fight, to end it.

If everyone felt that way, your son would never need to learn any of it.

Maybe he would enjoy the parts about shutting down a machinegun nest, or street assassinations?

school of the americas rocked for learning basic self defense
