I think 1974 was actually a very good time for music if you could pull yourself away from the AM radio and the discotheques. Go to Wolfgang's Vault, and you'll find a great variety of guitar driven, hard rock going on in our concert halls during that time such as Montrose, Led Zeppellin, Black Sabbath, etc as well and the progressive stuff like Pink Floyd. When I was a kid, the only time I was truly happy was when I was at a rock concert.

DOA the worst?
Hardly a significant song, but the worst?
Can I bring in demos no one was ever willing to cut?

I always thought the lyrics were "flying aloft" which makes more sense.
One site quotes "flying low".
Does anyone know for sure?

This is a really tamed down version of the graphic original.
It refers to personal experience.

I liked the B3 on it.

Found this ~

I have a friend who was in 'Nam and he was telling me that guys would get their albums sent to them, then communications would put some away so when they got bored they could listen to some rock out in the stick. Well my friend tells me that they used to hook up the PA system to some extra speakers and blast the song "DOA" out to the bush so as the Viet Cong wouldn't come in at night. He said the sirens used to scare the crap out of them so they would crank it up louder. Pretty strange huh?

One night I heard a cat yowling, must have been a stray pussy in heat, because she just would not shut the fuck up and she kept at it all night.

At one point, I wondered if I was really listening to a cat, or to a song by Cher, Gypsys Tramps and Thieves, Half-Breed or something from that era.

That's quite an indictment if somebody can't tell your creative work from a squalling cat. :D

Good set, Ring'o'Fire.

By the way, DOA was about a plane crash the writer witnessed, of a plane he had just been in.

After the second attack on the Towers, clearchannel issued a long list of censored songs that someone thought would be too sensitive for listeners.

DOA was not on this list.
Bridge Over Troubled Water was.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters? Banned?
It is surely the end times.

Now "Sound of Silence"
That's an existential song.

Hot Butter was a very poor pop version.
There is a torrent with 80 different versions.
I found a horrific medieval version.

I have the Apollo 100 version.

You guys haven't even scratched the surface of the horrorshow of the really bad country.
Worse is the current trend toward deliberately bad music.
American idol exemplifies the practice of caterwauling through even good songs, trying to hold a note as long as possible, no matter how poorly it is done, or musically ill timed.
This practice makes disco look good.

The Shaggs, at the peak of their technical skills.
Really bad.
And yet, I find I still like them more than some of the dance music I hear played.
Where I grew up, garage bands in high school with national hits weren't all that rare.

Dougly, what the fuck!?
Now we're talking.
I'm not even sure what they're trying for.

That link was delish-- especially the ending! Yeah, they were just so bad in such a good way-- almost like early Iggy Pop the way it defies musical convention.
