Bob, your troll power is amazing, really. Its like you have invoked thousands of years of bridge troll mythology into a succinct online troll persona. Really, really astonishing. If only I could attain the level of snark you command with your poignant statements like "why" and maybe "how" (sorry, I am anticipating future responses).
Now back to the ass kissing.
Pretty damn cool. I fully respect the fact that you are proposing to incorporate the other temples proposals into yours. I imagine there may be challenges in keeping the overall artistic theme of the temple itself coherant?
Are their any additional effects akin to the fire tornado in 2009?

Do they not have individual names?
You realize that if you don't name a thing, then it will be named for you.

"Belgian Waffle" is already taken, but "Oblique Reference" hasn't been used in association with the event, as far as I know.

I think he means there are six temples (or steeples?) withing the temple itself... This is just what I am assuming.Ugly Dougly wrote:There will be six temples scattered across the playa?roamer wrote:...we decided to simply call it The Temples since there are six of them...

Designing and building the temple this year really is a rite of passage for us both as individual Burners and as a crew. And we're oh so very grateful and excited to deliver our design. [/quote]

Roamer, I am so proud to be part of the Temples Crew and to work on this project with burners with a vision and a soul like you. Yes, working on the Temple(s) will be a rite of passage for me too, and a top highlight of my life's experience. It already is, I'm already feeling it.

Proposed temple names
1. This here temple.
2. That there temple over yonder.
3. Oooh, look at that temple in the distance, you can barely see it.
4. The one with the sparkles on it. Kinda looks like a mosque.
5. The cathedral-ish temple where we got ripped on Monday night.
6. The temple that they still haven't finished yet.

The Temple kickstarter campaign is a go!
Hey Everybody,
The Temple has just launched on kickstarter:
As you will see, its a very quick campaign, only thirty days: what up with that?
Well, this is the first of two campaigns we'll be running - we need to run a quick n dirty campaign as early as we can, which is now, so that we can rent a facility in Reno for pre-build, make sure there are big stacks of material there when the build crew spools up in mid-may, get volunteer accident insurance and so on...
Last year, working on Megatropolis, we found the biggest recurring problem was usually related to delays in getting materials or equipment to site at the appointed time... a delay would sometimes mean that 20 people would be unable to work for 6-8 hours.
This year with the Temple, we recognise that because the volumes of material are much larger, because we have a huge crew arriving into Reno from mid-may onwards, and because a successful pre-build is so very critical to this Temple, any delay could mean 1-2 days of 60-80 people standing around: and this could mean upwards of 600 work-hours lost, a very real blow to the build.
In order to prevent this happening, we've decided to split our online fundraising into 2 segments - the pre-build buffer campaign, and the larger decorative/transpo'/altars/shrines/food/etc campaign.
There will be several ways to support this project over the coming months, and the schwag will get more inventive & delicious as the months progress, but if you have the capacity & are feelin' the love enough to donate now, at this early stage, it would really enable the crew to get off to a flying, smooth start when they hit Reno!
Peace!
Irish

Many of you heard that the Temple of Transition is being built by the same folks that brought you Megatropolis last year--the International Arts Megacrew. Construction has been happening daily since Kiwi and Irish arrive the first of May 2011. Reno is home to the Temple build site this year as Reno is the summer home for both Kiwi and Irish.
Here's a video of the scale model:
The Temple of Transition will stand 12 stories tall (120 feet) and span 220 feet across. Five outer temples surround the center tower. Each tower is named to honor a stage of life: Birth, Union, Growth, Death, Decay and the center tower: Gratitude.
There are many photos of the construction of the panels and the crew as well as many ways to interact with us. We look forward to hearing from you, seeing you and being with you.

2nd Round of Fundraising
We are moving forward with a second round of fundraising. If you are able, please financially contribute to your Temple. Tons of fabulous gifts with your super appreciated donation. Donations help us to purchase additional SFI certified lumber, nails and much of the decorative artwork.
If not, please pass the word along to all of your Burners friends, lists and your family.
From what is happening, this will be a Temple of all Temples!

I look forward to seeing this amazing and ambitious project. I have no use for temples in the default world, being a non-believer, but this strikes me as way different and unlike real-world temples, it isn't a huge tax dodge scam!
