I feel a deeper connection to the folks in Empire, than those in Gerlach. Mainly, the store.jkisha wrote:It is sad, but it's also life. Lots of people put all their eggs in one basket. All was lost, including the basket.
I think the biggest problem with our country, is that no one is looking at OPTIONS! Bush is gone, its time to get smart again!
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..
Because United States Gypsum (USG) is in the business of building supplies and not wind farming or any other type of energy generation. One might as well have asked why GM/Ford/Chrysler didn't switch over to organic dairy farming or manufacturing women's lingerie when the stock market was tanking a few years back.why doesn't USG build a wind farm? Or is it just easier to uproot families?
It's easy enough to sit back and ask all the 'whys' you want and opine on all the 'you shoulds' until one's blue in the face. Fact is the business had to make some hard choices during a dismal economic decline. Painting them as the bad guy because they choose to operate without a staggering and unsustainable debt load is a bit unfair.

we already discussed buying Empire. I'm the town butcher if you haven't read it. They are a corporation, they should be smart enough to utilize their idle property! Or not...Isotopia wrote:Because United States Gypsum (USG) is in the business of building supplies and not wind farming or any other type of energy generation.
