Noob From NY

Post by Drawingablank » Mon Apr 04, 2011 8:20 am

Hi all,

After 10 years of longing to go home - the kids are grown, the PTA, scouting, little league, and other massive time sinks are behind me, and 2011 will be my first burn.

We are bringing a small unregistered theme camp (2700 miles is a long way to transport lots of stuff) consisting of myself, wife, and son and (possibly another friend).

In the default world my primary occupation is teaching candle making, leather carving, and chocolate making in addition to writing books and articles.

Although I don't do fine art for a living, my primary artistic outlets are wood sculpture and glass work (both stained glass and hot glass).

Our camp is Grasshopper Night and site is grasshoppernight.org although the site is not as complete as planned yet (getting prepared for BM by drinking lots of warm PBR interferes with getting anything done fast lol).
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Welcome from a fellow NYer (Suffolk).

How many of the 3 are drivers? Are you planning on making any stops along the way? Last year, being a solo driver, I limited my driving to 12-14 hour stints and it was a bear. I may try to cut down on the gear this year and take along a rider/driver.

Oh, and I know the song it's from but don't want to "hijack" the thread.

Looking forward to interacting and meeting up on the playa.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Thanks for the welcome.

I've been lurking on the boards for months but decided maybe now would be a good time to start shedding my shell.

To Sic Pup - we will be 2 drivers, maybe 3 depending on my son's school / work schedule - he may need to fly and meet us. We have several stops planned along the way to visit old friends / family but that is only secondary to the trip. I dread the drive but getting all that stuff to BRC is not really practical any other way. Being in Nassau, our trip is likely only about 1 hour less than yours.

And gratz on getting the Grasshopper Night reference - you either have excellent taste in music or are masterful at google searches. That challenge has gone on since September with no takers until now. We have the t-shirt design down but are trying to resolve some issues with finding clear silk screen ink for the glow in the dark powder. I will PM or otherwise contact you when we get the printing done.
