When, exactly, does Bman gate open?

When, exactly, does Bman gate open?

Post by Magikal » Tue Jul 20, 2004 9:46 am

This will be my first burn. I would assume (but you know what they say about that) that you could show up the Friday/Saturday before and get in and start setting up your camp. But the official starting time is Monday. Do they let you in early, or are the gates locked up until the official start? As this will obviously affect my starting time (and requests for time off), I would appreciate your input.

Don't expect to be let in before 12:01 am Monday morning. If you arrive early and your name is not on the theme camp early arrival list it's guaranteed you'll be told NO.

Another thing to consider...try planning your arrival for sunrise. If they let you in the gate early Monday morning the greeters will tell you to camp on the outskirts of the city and then setup in the daylight.

Early arrivals cost the org money for permit fees, and the JOTS crews are not there every day to handle and increased level of usage for the porta-potties.

Yes, dear boy, I had seen the graphic. AND found the website (which is how I am communicating with you as we "speak").

Thank you, Tancorix, for a serious reply to a serious question. You have saved me a good deal of time and grief, because I had planned to leave that Friday. Thank you again.

Obviously, nothing should prevent your leaving Friday, but what misbegotten knave would give the impression that Aug 27 = Aug 30?

St. Crispin’s Day is October 25th, AFAIK. Are you staying for cleanup?

Um, nope. Maybe subscribe to the Jackrabbit Speaks electronic newsletter which gives updates about damn near everything including policy changes/revisions throughout the year.

Unless your name is on the gate list (and I believe there's a deadline for getting your name on it) you won't be getting into BRC before the sheduled opening of 12:01 am that Monday.

Consider it fair warning.

I have a question.....

Burning Man "starts" Monday the 30th, so if i was arriving Sunday the 29th I would need to be on the list?

Also, if i am going with a theme camp that is on the list does my name need to be on the list or just the theme camps name?

A group of people who are staying in the same theme camp as I are supposed to head up early for set up, but i do not think MY name is actually on THE list

Then I don't think you'll ACTUALLY get in. But I'm not with Gate.

Seriously, I'm wondering how many times the question has to be asked until the answer sinks in. Asking it differently is probably not going to make a difference in the ultimate answer.

The Survival Guide should have arrived in your mail box by now.

Read it.

Also, the guidelines for pre-event gate access is up on the main BM web site.

Read it.

Multiple posts to this BBS have raised the question MANY times. Do a search.

Read them.

Can I get in early if I know someone else who's on "the list"?

Can I leave early or do I have to stay for the end?

I am sorry.. It was not clear to me. It was a question, there is NO need for you annoying rude answers. You could have put it MUCH nicer than that..and I did read the bloody Survival Guide

And to be VERY frank, I did not know if MY specific name had to be on "the list". What if i was in a car with a group of people who where on " the list" would i get in or would I have to wait.

It was UNCLEAR to ME. I am NOT like you, i am not the all knowing smartass on the Eplaya.... I will be sure NOT to ask another question again. I dont want to deal with your crap.

Here's a clue:

a) you either think can get in early, or

b) you can't read a calendar.

Pick a or b.

I don't know what's annoying. You asked a question in which the answer(s) have been specifically spelled out. (i.e your name's not on a list - you don't get in)
And to be VERY frank, I did not know if MY specific name had to be on "the list". What if i was in a car with a group of people who where on " the list" would i get in or would I have to wait.
YOUR name. Not the car's name/make/model/year/owner. YOUR name and the NAMES of others in the car and the camp they are associated with. It's called pre-approval. It's being done for a reason. Those reasons have also been elaborated upon. Those reasons are driven in good measure by individuals in the past who have made arrangements to set up a camp pre-event and then hauled loads of friends up with them under the auspices of setting up said camp resulting in distracting interactions among the various work crews, placing stress on the minimum infrastructure in place (toilets, placement quarrels, unsafe driving, etc.) and in some instances being a collective and sometimes demanding pain-in-the-ass.

It was UNCLEAR to ME.
So, WHAT was NOT clear about needing to have YOUR name on a LIST to GET IN PRE-EVENT.
I am NOT like you, i am not the all knowing smartass on the Eplaya....
I am not all knowing although I know some things. There are some things I actually know a good deal about and some of those things even have to do with the event although, as I've noted many times, I do not speak for. Often, this information is passed on as I understand it (or as it's been explained to me) so that folks like yourself don't drive all the way up to the playa only to have to sit outside of the event boundary baking with no shade, little water and little company.

And yeah, I have been accused of being an ill-tempered smart ass - especially when it comes to people who who show an almost frustrating level of cluelessness in spite of having information handed to them on a paper plate.
I will be sure NOT to ask another question again. I dont want to deal with your crap.
Feel free to ask away. Please, don't let me stop you. In fact if you continue to put the question differently from the myriad ways it has already been asked you might actually get the answer you're fishing for - but I doubt it will be the correct one.
