Do any of you go to 4th of Juplaya?

A couple years ago we camped at Frog Pond for one night before the Fourth before heading out on the playa. Just one other group there. The water there is only warm, but we soaked in the evening and then went back in the morning. In the evening it was nice and clear, but when we went in the morning the area had filled up with people and there were a bunch jumping in and it was real cloudy, all churned up. I got out pretty quick. Way too many people. We went down to Trego Trench where it was MUCH hotter and had a better soak. But, man, that place has waves of heat, it's hot and then gets hotter and then goes back. A little unstable and that kinda' bothered me. Like, how hot will the next wave be? And some of the others are always too hot. Like Black Rock. That one will kill you. Or Double Hot. Has a mixer valve and if the last person there leaves on hot, you can't get in. The hot springs are a mixed bag in the Black Rock. And finding them without GPS is very difficult.

My camp tests our gear on a little dry lakebed in socal. Firearms, flamethrowers and foul brews galore. 20-person camping trip.

I plan on going to 4th of Juplaya this year. I have never been. Scheduling precludes me from going to the main burn.

I leave SF area on/about Jul 2nd on a one way trip to New York - cross-country move.

If you don't mind a one way trip, I'd love to drive someone who has been. I'll cover all gas, but there is limited space for gear.

If you are from Chicago, Salt Lake City, or parts in between, then there's a chance to do Juplaya flying into SF area and riding with me to your home town. Message me if this might work for you.

Hey friends - couple of seasoned Burners here (hubby 12, myself 5) but never been out for 4th. Got a few good neighbor questions, so please spare me the snark. Anyone who's been know if kids' motorbikes would be considered too much of a nuisance? Might be bringing along my 2 nephs, ages 7 and 3, and also our little guy who's just 14 months. Are the fireworks constant...don't want a toddler with a nervous tick.

Been to the Rendezvous, thought that was a little lame/tame and fairly Burner unfriendly...we got bitched at for playing music for hoops/poi at 10pm. Meh. For the $150 or so in tickets for 2 couples, def wouldn't be back for that event. Just my .02 there.

Appreciate the info on the motorbikes tho, if anyone's inclined to reply, thanks in advance.

Oh, and Mindy should switch to decaf, and maybe a 12 step program.

It's an open playa. You can bring what you want and use it.

At Rendezvous, you should have move further out on the playa. I always go, a way to learn and give back to the desert. It ain't Burning Man. My opinion, a very nice event.

Re: bikes or any vehicles, Nevada law applies, as well as any BLM regs. Search online for the BLM Winnemucca office.

There is a fragile aeolian dune environment on the east side of the playa, don't fuck it up.

Bring your motorbikes, guns, fireworks, weapons and explosives if you have any...everyone else does, it's an anything goes environment out there, with the exception of you still need to not leave burn scars on the playa.

I went with a friend last year. This is *NOT* Burning Man. There is no predesignated safe area, and remember this terrain IS trying to kill you. We ended up having to utilize the spare tire right after making it onto the playa surface. We were then subject to exploring the entire unmarked Black Rock Desert (which changes terrain A LOT) without another spare. There are a lot of jagged rocks and spent bullets sticking out of the ground in parts in addition to the wet patches. We were lucky in that we just got stuck on Frog Pond for a few days. It's a horrible place. Don't go.

Same with the Black Rock. Don't go to Rendezvous. Don't go to Fourth. Don't go see the Perseid meteor shower. Especially, don't go to Burning Man, please.

Don't really understand "on BLM's radar". Of course, when we go to the Black Rock, we're all on BLM's radar. It's our desert and they watch it. You say it like it's a bad thing...

Fuck it, I'm going to the playa up on Alvord Desert in Eastern Oregon. Maybe all those damn Burners fucked up the Black Rock. Yeah. Don't go. Ever.

OK Simon, everyone... everyone who lives anywhere close, how about a warm-up on the Alvord Desert playa the second week end in June. My camp will have the North Pole shade with red and blue rope lights and a blue strobe on top. We'll bowl and, you know, stuff... I'll serve cold drinks, like Coke and flavored waters and beer and Playa Breeze.

Seriously, anyone up for a trip to the Alvord...?
