Federal Gov't shut down includes Black Rock Desert?

I wonder if the Fed shut down would effect the Black Rock Desert. I wonder if a prolonged shut down would endanger the ability of BRC LLC to produce an event this year... (ie, meeting permitting requirements, sign offs, staking out the city, and if like national parks the playa is closed off)

Just a curious oddity of the questions raised by the upcoming shutdown...

BLM land is open to the public and does not disappear when the gubmint does.

As I ponder this possibility,,, just think what BM could be like without gubmint intervention? Now I would pay twice as much for that event!

hahaha, seriously Trish. Really good point about it being better without the BLM's involvement.

I was asking because national parks are going to be closed during the shutdown.

I'm curious how long the 1995 shutdown lasted. The wikipedia entry on it doesn't say.

BLM isn't really an essential service, despite what we all might think. (Unless it's exactly what we all think.) So it should be rolled into agencies that would be furloughed. At least that's what I think.. but I wouldn't think it would effect our city.

If the shutdown does happen, it wont last long. Polling looks split for whom everyone will blame. That doesn't help either side in the end.

Not only NPR, but Planned Parenthood. The tea party has added a whole host of their special interest riders to the budget bill and that's what is holding up its passage. (But we shouldn't turn this into another political thread.)

hm. I heard that they would earn money, but not get paid until after people are back working to process the timecards.
Of course, considering that congress doesn't really like our vets anyway, it's not surprising that htey are now moving to screwing them when they are still on active duty.

That is also my understanding about military pay, but not for other federal employees. But a lot of good that does their families that are living paycheck to paycheck.

I'm not exactly sure what you are saying here. Is this the number of veterans in each body of congress? If so, what does this have to do with the conversation?

I detected the possibility of the conversation veering into a direction of # of Dem vets vs number of Rep vets as some form of factor concerning the apathy level.

The numbers are about even, but one interesting fact came out of my fact finding expedition - less than %50 of the members of Congress served in the Armed Forces in any capacity.

Maybe if there was a Dept of Lawyers Affairs or a Dept of Politicians Affairs they'd give a fuck universally.

In my experience - Veterans don't fuck over Veterans.
