When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

It really doesn't take that much force to remove you from behind the wheel.jkisha wrote:I haven't heard much about seat belts preventing secondary collisions. At first blush it doesn't make much sense to me.
It can be far, far less than lethal force.
Studies show limited car control from the back seat, or squashed against the passenger door.
Even a midrange race car can generate enough g force driving that remaining behind the wheel is difficult or impossible without four or six point belts.
They are considered an essential part of car control in any race car, or even high performance car.
I was behind a car that slipped into a guard rail, then rolled after that.
I can't say if the initial collision removed car control, but the second crash into the armco certainly did.
I watched as it rolled several times with all occupants tumbling like a washing machine.
When the car was on wheels again, there was no one near the controls to do anything.
They were lucky and had minor injuries considering, mostly from colliding with each other, which can be enough for fatal injuries.
But this accident was more than enough to remove the driver from any involvement because he lacked belts.
Most statistics about secondary collisions merely examine the events and deaths.
In mountainous areas, such as east tennessee, it is usually secondary events which are fatal.
Example - Crash, lose control, go off the road and hit something unpleasant.

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I find myself supporting the full legalization of all recreational drugs. And MMJ patients should not have to jump through hoops to get what they need, or pay out the nose for it either. In short...I want Colorado's constitutional law on MMJ to become the law of the land.
I easily qualify for a MMJ card under Nevada and Colorado law...had it offered to me but I passed on it even though my qualifying conditions get worse by the week. My last X-rays of my neck in particular 5 weeks ago had them saying my neck is deteriorating pretty fast...so much so that they want to do surgery now. I told them to take a flying fuck. Modern medicine has took me to death's door 3x, over Christmas they overdid my mother's chemo and she flatlined twice...my faith in modern medicine redefines the word sketchy at the moment. Still...the anti-inflammatories keep me functional on a day to day basis...but when they can't hold back the inevitable MMJ will likely be the way I go. I just hope all the hard fought battles to get the limited state rights we have won't be gone by the time I need it the most.
And since I took so long to read / write this that the awesome Maryanimal has posted again....when it comes to alcohol I'm all for throwing the book at DUI's. Life is too short to drink shitty liquor or cheap rotgut beer. Drink the good stuff, appreciate the artistry that went into making it, and enjoy it, not just slam it. That's how I look at it anyway.

just to remind y'all, that while MM is permitted by various states for holders of genuine medical credentials, while at BRC you are on FEDERAL land and under their jurisdiction, and your MM card from Nv or Ca or whereever is worthless on playa. EVEN if you have a VALID card from wherever...
While I personally don't have an issue with MM and live in a state where medical marijuana is allowed by state law just remember that it is knowny that LE from all over DOES read this board, so keep in mind that what you say (or type) can be used against you...

Speaking of LE reading the board...anything that can be done to end the carnage on the Mexican border would be welcome. Legalization might be the answer to ending the cartels....and saving our Border Patrol officers.
As for drugs at Burning Man...mine always come from Walgreens with valid scrips so I'm not even remotely worried. Except if you consider caffeine a drug...in that case I'm as guilty as it possibly gets.

Excellent points, all. I also think that what a person puts into their own body is their own business, (ie: all drugs should be legal) but there is NO excuse for operating a moving vehicle while intoxicated. Not that it doesn't happen, and I don't think if you have A beer or smoke some pot that you're going to commit vehicular homicide, common sense comes into play but if there's even a question then the only answer is NO. But I just don't think people need to be protected from themselves, if the stupid ones die off then so be it....

Might as well ask firefighters to stand and watch while a house burns down, if the landlord hasn't paid the fee. Oh, wait...

IIRC the instance you refer to was in a community where people had the CHOICE to pay or not pay for the service. The owner of the home which burned CHOSE not to pay. I think it a beautiful example of enjoying the benefits of one's own decision.unjonharley wrote:Yes, We must rid ourselfs of those useful departments.. You who think emergency services should be offered to everyone no matter what should be the first to pull a fire truck out of your own ass!
