Domestic Violence

Post by gyre » Fri Apr 22, 2011 2:26 pm

I'm not trying to start an endless discussion of such a complex subject, but this story was too dramatic to ignore.

On the general subject of self defense, someone asked why anyone would use a weapon against someone that doesn't have one.
There are worse cases and worse photos, but this happened with bare hands (not to be underestimated) and inside a judge's chambers with much help seconds away.

She was quickly unconscious and unaware of her location when revived.
Could have been easily killed.

"He came from behind me and with his left hand put his hand around my neck and started to choke me out and with his right hand he stated punching me repeatedly on the side of my head," said Scott-Gonzalez.

Boyd asked, "Do you ask yourself, how could this have happened in a judge's chambers?"

"I'm baffled. I have no understanding of how this could have happened," said Scott-Gonzalez.

Paul Gonzalez had to be tased as a dozen bailiffs ran into the room and struggled to restrain him.

Doreen told INSIDE EDITION, "She said, 'Mommy, where am I? I don't know where I am.' It was heartbreaking."

“He had told the judge he was going to take the kids and nobody was going to see them again……I looked at the judge to see the judge’s response,â€

“He goes, ‘I’m not going to pay child support,’ and Judge Rothschild says, ‘You know all parents have to pay child support, we all have to support our children,’ and he (Gonzalez) stalked out of the room,â€

The part of the story that won't get printed is that she realizes it was all her fault, forgives her husband, refuses to press charges and they all live together happily ever after. Until he kills her and possibly the kids.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Unfortunately this is not a rare story. Catie is lucky to get away with her life.

I'm sure Paul was interesting and charming when she first met him, and probably there was something in the back of her mind that said "this guy is trouble" but was so lonely she went along with it.

With any luck, he will go where there are no women to torment.

There are some good people working to help the battered, like:

Here in Massachusetts, we have a complex system of courts and attorneys that seem to bring out the worst in everyone. Alimony for life and a system that allows lawyers to use restraining orders as a tool in the divorce process seems to frustrate both sides to the point of hopelessness and violence. The resulting news headlines only bring more crazy legislation here that throws more gasoline on these already volatile relationships.

There is no justification for this kind of violence, but I can truly see how it evolves and happens.
