I picked up one of those GPS thingies at EMS. It seems to work pretty well. I can hardly wait to get lost somewhere!

Well, my sister will like her birthday present which she has expressed absolutely no interest in... she just doesn't know how much she wants a GPS backtracker. or something like that. it was the tax refund talking to me
I bought one of these for my husband for valentines day. He liked it's simplicity, he said. I liked the fact I was giving him an arrow that did nothing more than point towards HOME. (not that he really needs it for around here, but he really wanted one for on the playa)

I haven't used it yet, as I had it sent straight to Arizona to save the shipping and duty taxes. My sister has used it to make sure it was ok, and thankfully "has not gotten lost coming home from work YET!".

There is a quirk with the backtracker tho, that you should be aware of. If you don't recalibrate it with each powerup, it may end up someplace other than where you thought you were headed. (remember, all you have is an arrow and a distance. You don't really know until you get there if the arrow is true) This involves swishing it around in a figure 8 and flipping it a couple of times. Not really a big deal, but if you don't know about it you may end up thinking you have a real dud on your hands.

There's a little demonstration of the process here: http://www.bushnell.com/products/gps/in ... 77750719E5&

Thanks delle,
sounds like three card monte... I've also read that it helps to step away from large metal objects... like cars, before setting a waypoint since the compass is magnetic.
edit... oh lord I just watched the video. I'll be watching for others, this is a tell tale sort of dance isn't it? electronics sure make us look silly. eh?

I know!

I figure it'll be just another opportunity for an introduction.....

"Ah, I see you've got a Bushnell Backtracker! Let me show you MY technique!"

Then I'd do a fancy prezel swish with a handstand or two....

(yeah right. maybe 30 years ago............................ sigh. Actually, I'd probably end up pulling off some spastic jerking that looked more like one of Stewart's "Look what I can do" dances than anything else)

I got my Dusty Swan mug, which rocks and inspired me to finally start sewing on some projects for Trishy-poo. Also picked up some expensive eye drops for a dollar. Maybe this year I'll remember to use them...

I replaced the red led in a little princeton tech light... put in a fast fade/flash multicolor led.

It's a start. I had it in my pocket all day, and was playing with it whenever I saw a dark nook to flash it in.

I purchased a battery operated fan. That way when I try to take a late afternoon nap in my tent I can cook more evenly......convection-like.

Did you dream up what we look like in real life, or were we just our avatars? I'm curious about this!

Received our dusty swan mugs. They are rather great.

About have Kenman convinced that we have wasted time and money on the little trailer. Took it for a test drive and wood rot is so bad the entire front of it is no longer attached. Fixable for a cost, which brings up the possible rewiring and replumbing. I say time to stop.

Which brings up the Airstream that we hope to purchase Monday! Used, or course, but in very good shape, floors are excellent and the rest of it is Aluminium. Crossing fingers that the bank will front us a couple thousand.
When the only tool you got is a hammer, every problem looks like a hippie.

Sound System for 2 krew camp- Fender Rumble 15 watt base amp. Sounds sweet for 100 bucks! Make sure You Use the Input Jack (not aux in) for MP3 player so you can use equalization knobs. At 40 watts AC in- my solar keeps-up fine. Test drive one at local guitar shop. Lots of volume for the price.

Tamara, we need an Airstream in our camp. Place needs to be classed up a little bit, and that should do the trick!

Our home/wheels/RV/1970s converted coach bus for this year's burn was finally picked up yesterday. We bought it in the dead of winter, so we had been waiting for it to warm up enough to drive. So nice to see it parked out front, cause we have a fair bit of work do on it before August rolls around.

I am making costumes. I never have enough costumes. Plus, I am remodeling my 5th wheel to be more organized. You should see it. It's coming along just wonderfully. I am so proud.

Yes, preparation is fun. The anticipation is wonderful. I wonder how all of my "things" are going to work up there. Wonder what will break or not go as planned.... great fun.
