Algae Bio Diesel! Nitwits!
Ive brought this up before, but it has often gone ignored. Why the fuck aren't we exploiting our own technology!? Does our country have some fucked up petroleum fetish?
I want to hear one GOOD reason, why this won't work!

Oh christ. The day eplayans band together and change the world...
Not good.
Of course, yes algae, and algae to cool off hot water from solar trough and whatever else.
But, we have a constitutional right to be idiots and to fritter away fossil fuels and the climate of out planet. Article 42.

According to the EPA's Renewable Fuel Standards Program Regulatory Impact Analysis, released in February 2010, biodiesel from soy oil results, on average, in a 57% reduction in greenhouse gases compared to fossil diesel, and biodiesel produced from waste grease results in an 86% reduction. Happy now?

It's actually cheaper...barely...than crude oil. But there isn't enough interest or funding for it. It can produce gasoline...but, I'm more interested in the diesel versions. Diesel engines last over 3 times longer than gas.mudpuppy000 wrote:It's all about the $$. If it's cheap enough people will use it.

ken uses oil in his truck. saves us a bunch of money. As soon as someone figures out how to make us all pay 4.00 a gallon and they can get rich, it will catch on.
this guy in llano goes around to all the restaurants and takes their old frying oil and processes it, he hasn't paid for gas in decades.

As a country we really need to change our thinking and process different types of fuels other than from petroleum. Just think, a fuel station with 3 pumps, corn, algae, and soy. However there are too many politcos with their spindley fingers in the oil industry to want to change to a cleaner, more efficient way to keep our Earth from eventually imploding.
I know this is a staement millions of people say, but if I had the money to start producing or fund R and D for alternate fuels, that's where I'd invest my money.

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Distribution? Let's not overlook that gasoline has the convenience factor.TomServo wrote:not yet! we aren't using themUgly Dougly wrote:According to the EPA's Renewable Fuel Standards Program Regulatory Impact Analysis, released in February 2010, biodiesel from soy oil results, on average, in a 57% reduction in greenhouse gases compared to fossil diesel, and biodiesel produced from waste grease results in an 86% reduction. Algae is an alternative to corn based fuels. I know fish eat algae, but we can grow our own.theCryptofishist wrote:Distribution? It may work, but until it's scaled up at least beyond the production capability of current biodiesel production, which itself is a mere fraction of total diesel consumption, it won't really be taken seriously.
Maybe the best place to start with this algae-based biodiesel is making coal-fired power plants a zero-emission electricity power source. That way we don't have to waste our time with piddly "green" power sources like solar, or even nuclear energy, all the while producing fuel for sale, or even just to pay for transportation or whatever.

I think that algae can be used in all steam power plants using up the excess warmth. So, we're getting more power for the co2 we're putting into the air.
BLM is putting in a lot of renewable energy, and DOE is doing load guarantees--I think for plants that are "shovel ready" on NYE. I see some value in trying out different things (within limits) while we're doing this. I don't know if algae is ready, but I don't mind DOE getting into some research.

Weve had the technology for years. Even the vietnam era Deuce and a halves were multi fuel..and from what ive heard and read, cooking oil would work. All my Diesels were either Cat or Detroit Diesel.Major Krash wrote:...unless your diesel engine is a Ford!TomServo wrote:...Diesel engines last over 3 times longer than gas....

I have two Mr35's left.......both multi fuel.
they use a fuel density compensator, to adjust for differing fuels.
and, the army put out an "improvised fuel" book, for tactical operations.
but, still quite inefficient.

my "fastest" duece, would do about 65 on the flat......but, now that it's a crane (I posted pic in some thread here a while back), not even close.
mostly, they're made to top out about 55 to 60.
convoy speed is 45.
but, they'll climb a tree if you can get a wheel on the trunk and some traction.

the GVW is low, as in Army ratings.
but, they have 3 axles.
and, they have "air over hydraulic" breaks.....well, I've heard of the random gendarme who thinks they're "air brakes" and tickets for no CDL.
14K unladen weight, depending on the model and equipment.
I drive mine with "c" and, they are licensed as "historic vehicles"......not sure if that would matter, either.

It's called corporate tyranny or rule by corporations. Welcome to the new CSA. Corporate States of America...just as dastardly and undemocratic as it's secessionist namesake 150 years ago and just as worthy of complete and utter overthrow.
