Look that the 15 top countries......... we import more from other countries - other than from the Mideast.

January 2011 Import Highlights: Released March 30, 2011
Monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in January 2011 has been released and it shows that three countries exported more than 1,000 thousand barrels per day to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 70 percent of United States crude oil imports in January while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 89 percent of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top five sources of US crude oil imports for January were Canada (2,149 thousand barrels per day), Mexico (1,216 thousand barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1,099 thousand barrels per day), Nigeria (968 thousand barrels per day), and Venezuela (951 thousand barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Iraq (470 thousand barrels per day), Algeria (378 thousand barrels per day), Colombia (303 thousand barrels per day), Angola (294 thousand barrels per day), and Brazil (259 thousand barrels per day). Total crude oil imports averaged 9,069 thousand barrels per day in January, which is an increase of 438 thousand barrels per day from December 2010.

Canada remained the largest exporter of total petroleum in January, exporting 2,826 thousand barrels per day to the United States, which is an increase from last month (2,713 thousand barrels per day). The second largest exporter of total petroleum was Mexico with 1,366 thousand barrels per day.

It's nice to see people who can have an intelligent conversation about world issues, while others just pull up websites and feign intelligence regarding certain subjects. Anyone can to that. Pseudointellectuals are the ones who lack the actual knowledge and are just pretentious bags of wind.

Then there is the name calling and written assaults on someone stating his opinions. Everyone is entitled to their opinion without all the shit that spews from narrow minded mouths.

...just saying. :D

Good call mary. The use of the word "retarded" in name calling is really offensive. It puts down a whole population of people who face enough prejudice as is.

Thanks lucky420. Agreeing to disagree is how things should work. But there are some who feel that their word or opinions are the only things that count. and using the word retarded, well, that shows me how juvenile someone can be. Plus I've worked with mentally challeneged children and adults, and they are the people who are the friendliest, nonjudgmental, joyful people I've ever met.

There are too many self-serving, indignant, pompous asses who are so into themselves, they don't see anything but their own miserable selves as God-like imbeciles. :D

Not so.... the used to be called retarded are now called "special" so that open up the term for use again. Nobody actually grouped into the "retarded" anymore.

It's not politically correct to call them that, so we can call other people that name now.

Actually DM, I'll agree with you one this one. one of my clients was a down syndrom child and his mom said there was nothing wrong with saying retarded. She told me her son was retarded. It was an honest statement.

It's just data, and it can be massaged or presented in order to support any number of viewpoints.

I am a trained scientist.

Data has a specific meaning. Data is raw and unfiltered. This doesn't mean it is unbiased. All data is biased in the fact that certain factors were considered and other factors were not. But the thing is that this is obvious from the data. A trained scientist knows this and looks for this.

Now, most people are used to using the term "data" for statistics. This is incorrect. Statistics come from data but are not data. Statistics is the mathematical manipulation of the data. It is pertinent, but again, one needs to know the statistics used and the meaning therein.

I do hope I have clear some things for some.

Who's political data do you believe? Fox news or MSNBC? or CNN for that matter? I never said Libya was about oil...Not for th U.S. anyways..But for the European countries, and even China it probably is.
And, as a "trained scientist" one would would think, you'd be more open to analytical discussion, than bursting into a childish pissy fit and name calling? IMHO

re; retarded- to use it towards someone in a derogatory manner is still insulting to people with learning disabilities or those that have an intellectual disability. To reference it to someone who is in fact ID or retarded, well no that is not derogatory because that is what the disability is.

sorry OT

Yep, I am trained as a journalist (propagandist), and I know how easy it is to change presentation - and change perception.

For instance, "most of our oil comes from Canada." If you said n% comes from Islamic countries or n% comes from African countries, it would evince a different response.

Anywho, what's the news from Libya?

You damn well know that snarky behavior is applauded here.

It's funny. Anyone who takes anything "personal" is crazy. [there I go again]

I think we are losing. Heard about those drones that the US is now using... seems NATO forces are worth shit.

Militarily, I think that the word people are using is "stalemate". I concur.
We don't need more people killed. In order to maneuver Qaddafy into a position where he might surrender, we need some professionally commanded troops and nobody yet has shown the willingness to commit to this.

But Egypt still probably has enough tanks to scare the hell out of him. It might be interesting to see it happen - from a safe distance.

No, there's not enough oil in Libya to affect US gas prices, except in regards to speculation - which seems to be an important factor these days.

seems I've read here somewhere, speculation that U.N. troops and actions were mostly worthless, tigers with no teeth, or fortitude.

We can talk oil if you like. A topic I take dear to heart. So much so that I write about it as part of my living.

In a nutshell we are fucked. No matter where it is on earth we only have 1.4 trillion barrels in proven reserves. At the 89 million barrels we consume a day worldwide how long do you think that will last? Simple math. Peak oil has come and gone.

Brent crude, sweet, heavy, tar sand, shale oil, et.al it does not matter. I doubt my grandkids will ever know the privilage of flying in an airplane, but the food riots, the wars, famines, and pandemics will make anything to date look paltry.

Nope, not in the DSM guide anymore. There is no longer a population actually labeled "retarded". It's fair game.
