Gerald Celente of Trend Forecasting is quite convinced that the West is starting WW III.
An important Chinese general said that he expects China to fight a war with America before too long. Saudi Arabia has said that they don't trust America and were going to have to look at Russia or China for protection. Syria already has a Russian Base.
Celente has a good track record. Hard to say

Been working my ass off lately and just now saw this post and wanted to respond since I mentioned something about this before. My xray equipment requires an annual survey by a medical physicist. The guy I use also has a PhD in Nuclear Physics. He has been contacted several times about the Japan issue and tells everyone the same thing. "I have taken readings every morning since the incident occurred and have not detected any appreciable change in Santa Barbara since the disaster took place."mdmf007 wrote:Problem is with ionizing versus no ionizing radiation...ygmir wrote:IIRC, the water itself is not radioactive, just the suspended particles in it.unjonharley wrote:.

I also asked him about the water. He said the rains take whatever particles are in the air quickly. Particles in water are heavier than gold and sink very quickly. The more scattered they become, the less exposure will occur.
Personally, I think we underestimate Mother Earth's ability to wipe her own ass.

This article has interesting statistics about food production. We substitute carbon-energy for food energy to produce enough food. Carbon -energy appears to be going up. Most of this rise is attributable to dollar printing. A small consolation to the 44 million people who have been pushed into poverty since last June.

This is a technical paper on some purported changes in the sun. It has to do with CMEs NOT following a straight trajectory.
"So an international team analyzing data from NASA’s twin STEREO spacecrafts, which provide three-dimensional observations of solar activity, made an important discovery when they noticed something that had been predicted but never observed: CMEs launched into space from the sun’s high latitudes following trajectories that brought them back toward the solar system’s equatorial plane—where Earth resides"
http://sfaw.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/th ... er-things/ This would imply that Terra was a bit more likely to get hit. Interesting.

There are a lot of people who just aren't needed in the producing economy. Many are on government rolls. Each recovery has been increasingly a "jobless recovery".
"Unneeded as workers, the unemployed also become superfluous as consumers and burdensome as citizens."
OK, so what becomes of them? What does a society do with people who are " unneeded, superfluous and burdensome" ?

We've simply become too damn productive for our own good! But doncha think much of it also has to do with lowering our own standards as a society? How is it we can still purchase a clothes washer for $500 today that does about the same as a $500 clothes washer TWENTY-FIVE years ago? Yeah, the value has diminished when inflation is considered.can't sit still wrote:There are a lot of people who just aren't needed in the producing economy. Many are on government rolls. The Kelvinator freezer my parents bought in 1946 was still running in 1996 when I gave it to a friend. It was not frost-free and it was heavy and noisy. But the damn thing NEVER needed anything except a new belt once-in-a-while.
Manufacturers have purposely built in life-spans to assure regular replacements while making repair costs nearly equally expensive. The U.S. basically forced the Steel Industry overseas with regulations. The small businesses which support such major industries went tits up.
It is funny your article mentions Jeff Immelt of General Electric. In 1998, GE Medical bought OEC Medical of Switzerland and brought that factory to Salt Lake City. I've used OEC portable xray equipment since the '80's and it has always been second to none. The Swiss had true craftsmen who spent quality time to make each part like that country's fame for fine time pieces.
I had a fluoroscope made by GE/OEC which failed time and time again. My service engineer had replaced EVERYTHING on the unit and it was still NOT DEPENDABLE! After numerous meetings with their representatives, they replaced it. The second unit continued to have poor service. After a few THOUSAND (75k IIRC) complaints, the FDA stepped in and discovered some GLARING QUALITY CONTROL issues. They actually shut down GE Medical for over a YEAR until they got their shit together. They were also prohibited from selling their products during that time.
It turns out Jeff Immelt et. al bought the OEC name and rode it into the ground by DOUBLING manufacturing and CUTTING their quality control in half! I scoff at Immelt being on anybody's committee for anything! Gone are the days of craftsmanship, unless you pay through the nose. QUANTITY is by far the priority of manufacturers today. QUALITY is buyer beware these days! THAT, in my opinion is why our productivity has outsourced our consumption.

For good quality appliances the price has always been high.
The good ones are usually still available, but most won't look and won't spend the money.
When vcrs got cheaper, they never stopped making the old models, just called them industrial models, which they were.
Look for industrial, professional or commercial models to find decent quality.
Usually used industrial is better than new consumer.

Trish sold high-end appliances for TWELVE YEARS. There are very few actual manufacturers. The labels are more related to the specs of that particular label than the quality of workmanship. Viking, Wolf and SubZero are the manufacturers of merit for industrial appliances. You don't see many of those on the showroom floor. Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Kenmore, Kelvinator, Magic Chef, etc. are all pretty much made by LG of So. Korea or Samsung of Japan. Many of those are "Hechos en Mexico"gyre wrote:For good quality appliances the price has always been high.

You definitely have to do your research.
I'm considering buying a new fridge and freezer when I can.
The only reason to consider it is efficiency upgrades.
I have been told to look at the compressor.
I'm looking at sunfrost and some others.
I think the compressor is german.
I may go DC.
Danfoss compressor.

My Dometic microwave was sold under the whirlpool name.
$1500 with the Dometic badge, $350 as a Whirlpool.
Swedish made.
They actually are prettier inside than out.
No regrets so far.
And I'm using a 40 year old Litton too.
A bit weak in power now, but dead reliable.
I want a 3000 watt commercial unit for big stuff too.

It may not be appropriate for a consumer fridge though, due to different design specs, another thing to understand.
I always wanted a viking stove though.
Occasionally you see the subzeros used.
Rarer with sunfrost and the more desirable brands.
I've seen subzeros pulled out just for decor reasons.
They are mechanically fragile though, cabinet wise.
I'm likely to buy a commercial cabinet and add my own system.

It would be great if Americans thought more long-range and bought quality stuff. It's cheaper in the long run. It would also be great if they bought "American". Nope ! They buy the cheapest crap on the shelf. I just bought new boots. American made. Not cheap, but, good quality. I don't think that the Chinese make my size anyway. 15 EEE.

A friend of mine bought some swedish boots once.
They offer the full range of sizes, and I think mason still does in the usa.
The boots were made to the old standard and costly, but supposed to last virtually forever.
Sold as trekking boots, I think.
I think they can be fitted to you, which must make a huge difference.

LG may be a decent company, but usually bespoke manufactured stuff varies according to the order.
Companies have told me that walmart orders crappified versions for the store, tents, etc.
LG has a great reputation in high end electronics.
I recently bought an LG tuner used.
It's quite an industrial device and far cheaper than the user friendly consumer model, supposed to be functionally identical.
It is immensely adjustable.
I have no experience with them in the past, but researched them.
