Bay Area Native/Playa Virgin 2011! Hiya!

Post by GirlSkout » Thu May 05, 2011 12:41 am

Hey, y'all.

Coming this year for the first time, with veteran Burners.

Any sage words of advice, things I won't find in the guide but you recommend I bring/do/try so I can be maximally self-reliant and minimally dependent on my friends? Extra points if you can hook me up with a cool idea that even my vet friends haven't thought of!

Looking forward to seeing your luminous selves on the playa, and to shining my own light as brightly as possible!

A tip not in the guide... humm.

Well if you don't plan on bringing any food stuffs that need to be in a cooler, but was going to bring a cooler for the beer, don't. Just wrap your beer in your heavy sleeping blankets in the morning and keep them in your tent. It wont be ice cold, but it will be the coolest drink not from a cooler at lunch time. (Cans will feel cool to touch, btw.)

Sage advice would be the line, "the playa provides," is bull shit. Other then that, as long as you have enough food, water, and gear to take care of yourself you'll be fine. - Read, read, read..

Edit: Where is my manners...
Welcome Scout!

If you use guylines, duct tape the knots.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hey GirlSkout,

Glad you'll have veterans with you. I imagine you've read the Survival Guide anyway, as that is the first and most important thing you can do to keep yourself alive, & make yourself a joy to camp with.

2011 Guide Coming Soon:
http://www.burningman.com/preparation/e ... index.html

22 main links, or download the 16 page txt or pdf.

Advice is difficult to give on an experience as broad and challenging as this; you'll see why if you peruse the Q&A Tips & Tricks forum below this forum and see how many topics there are. The "Search" function at the top center of the site works to a degree, if you are thoughtful about your choice of keywords, narrow your search in the dropdown menu by forum (usually to the Q&A forum only) and try more than once. The regulars here can be quite nice if you're polite & they can tell you've tried your own research first, but it's still the internet, and not quite the playa atmosphere, so watch out for killer snarks. :)

Welcome aboard!

I'm a virgin burner as well.

I'm volunteering at Media Mecca, come say hi. I'm probably sort of nice sometimes, but the big softie Simon of the Playa is.
"I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway."
Jesus fuckhole, what the fuck was that?
