Wonderful project.
Any plans on having a local fundraiser party thing-a-ma-bob, as well?

Awesome Blog! and even more AWESOME IDEA!
We'll definably be stopping by... or maybe I'll come by alone, don't need camp mates asking me what my secret was, lol.
Which cross streets or area are hoping for placement?

Awesome Super Original Idea!

Yeah you will!
Are you shooting for the 3 or 9 side?
We're shooting for the 3 o'clock side. We're hoping for 3 oclock or 4:30 streets. We prefer to be off the main roads, a little off the radar, but not so far out we're totally missed.

makes sense. i'm ok with either side...i put 3 as the primary choice and 9 as our second choice. ^_^
How many secrets is a person allowed?
still working on that one...to some extent it will depend on the amount of traffic we get. i'm all for letting people write as many as they want, but we have to be realistic about space. we're thinking about doing some kind of timeout on each filed secret. like after 24 hours your spot will "time out" so it can be used by someone else. or everything on file will expire at midnight or something. but that's a maybe. my partner in crime and i debate this often, so i'm sure we'll come up with something good. :)

Good call! 3 o'clock, is way better than 9 O'clock, lol.

So then is the Secret storage gonna be hard copy or digital?
I just sorta figured in my mind that you would use one of those rolls of tickets, you get at party stores and office supply places, that has two tickets with the same number.

Then after a person wrote down their secret it would be stapled to one half of the ticket, and they would walk off with the other half. But then the secret could be read by anyone. Hum... maybe it would go in an envelope, and the number would be written on the out side of the envelope. And if its not a really long secret, it could be written on the part of the envelope that is only seen when its open.

I guess maybe I need to go back and reread the blog.

Still sounds like a killer idea!
And if they did expire on midnight, maybe you just start opening them and reading them off to passers by. Late at night, so no one can remember exactly what the secret said anyway.

so, the digital storage will be for the sound project. the written storage will be filed in some kind of homemade numbered filing system (my sweetie came up with the most brilliant idea using empty toilet paper rolls), and the tags will in all likelihood be dog tags stamped with our camp name. we'll have the numbers stamped on the back and when you submit a secret, you'll get a set of 2 tags: one with the number and one blank as a keepsake.

And here is the Kickstarter rub again. With less than 3 weeks to go they have not yet reached 10% of their $3,000 goal.Although we wish them well a betting man would say they ain't gonna make it.If this happens what comes next? Will all these ideas, hopes and placement deliberations be for nothing?

if i had known the kickstarter thing was going to be an issue with anyone, i never would have done it.

i personally used it to donate to 5 different burning man projects (including a theme camp last year), and i've really enjoyed being able to do that. it makes me feel like i'm helping someone out.

unfortunately, there's no burner community in indianapolis, or i'd be doing fundraisers here. in all likelihood, i'll just be knitting a ton of stuff and selling it on etsy in order to pay for the project.

the reality is, i was just trying kickstarter out because i thought was a neat concept. clearly, not an opinion shared by people here.

And there you go, folks!

Drive and vision come together in perfect balance. Isn't this exactly the sort of thing we should be getting behind?

I love the vision of this project. It speaks to me on a really deep level. Your personal energy just makes it that much more special.

Thank you!!!!

B.U.S. Camp seems like an original, fun, boundry pushing idea havoc.

I checked out your kickstarter and it had been cancelled just one minute before I got there.

I've read on eplaya kickstarter often gets funding faster and faster towards the end of the goal date...sorta like a race! Perhaps a smaller $ goal amount would be a good idea? (you can always rush in and fund the remainder yourselves in the 11th hour and get the money)
OR
one of the other crowd-funding sites...Indie go go would be a good idea?
I think Indie go go allows you to keep the money, regardless of how much $ is raised.

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't donating to an original theme camp such as yours a form of gifting (giving) in the default world? There is a recession raging away; does this mean many cave in and hence fewer projects for Burning Man overall?

Care to share you're intended alternate fund raising plans? Maybe there's still a way for online docents to give afterall.
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

It's not like you're 2 to 6 hours away (not saying those closer have it much easier) Nor are you asking for one thin dime to fund you're burn...theme camps seem to be an art form to me.

25% of google employees attend burning man, property values continue to CRASH through the floor all across USA, all the while property in the vicinity of google/silicon valley are climbing, they LOVE kickstarter as well as many others gifting in the default world. How do they give monetary gifts if they wish to?

I like this project. There are many art worlds. Though making any temporary installation on a dry lake bed is an accomplishment in itself, very few can stand on their own aesthetically in the art worlds I'm interested in. This one does though. Hope it works out.

That sounds like a good way to store the hard copies. How many pairs of numbered tubes+dog tags do you plan to make? I'm just sorta assuming that once someone brings back the dog tags the tube+dog tag will be reused.

The secret reading might be better if it was only twice during the event. That way people would have a chance to pass their secret number to someone, and the person could bring it back the next day, encase they were to busy or something. Like maybe Wednesday and Friday. It would stink if you pass your code to someone Monday night, then they show up Tuesday and the secret is no more!

O man! or give people the option to have their secret "Read to the world! To get the Monkey off your back, that's just too scary to admit!"
