I've removed that post so as not to cause clutter.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh! Secret thread!

Post by gyre » Mon Apr 18, 2011 10:04 pm

Near the start of this thread is a great example of how secretive I have been about the "many multiple" tickets Antim says I have received, and my "secretiveness" about it.

I have a receipt for the 2008 ticket I bought, and I wasn't able to attend as gas prices spiraled.

Antim, you remember every little thing I've ever said and done, whether it happened or not, but you can't remember this thread or my reference to your "gift"?

I don't see any real need to continue to pick at this scab in an attempt to turn it into a bloody festering wound.

If you're trying to prove that you are an insufferable pain-in-the-ass who cannot let something go and will use anyone and anything stupid enough to not run away at the mere sight of you, you are doing a good job.

Let it go.

Don't torpedo the board to pursue your vendetta.

Albeit a polite post still a moocher in my book. I love the Eplayans that go through the trouble of registering an account and then their first post is to pitch the field for a ticket.

I know there are better out there posts out there.

Why should I not respond to the persistent and vicious vendetta waged by Antim?

I am not the one that insisted on making personal issues public, or so vicious.
Most have noticed I kept silent until the lying became unreasonable, though some was pulled by another mod.

Your attitudes are beyond unreasonable, and quite unfair, and you should consider what you are saying.

Fishy, you're one to talk.
Very cute, since you seem to have complained to hundreds of people about my "crime" of having stuff stranded at your place. (Well, some apparently, since all the camping gear was gone when picked up.)

What do you expect to achieve by talking about it endlessly?
Why are you so angry?
What am I supposed to do to change the past?
You haven't bothered to discuss any other issues with me, but you feel comfortable posting how "insufferable" I am.
Why haven't you talked to me?
People have told me you say you couldn't reach me, but you didn't respond to most contact, and my email and phone have been available at all times.

Why do you think it's okay to insult me, but wrong for me to respond?

I assume the best intentions of my friends.
That isn't being oblivious, it's trust and it's a deliberate choice.

Gyre, I always liked and appreciated the kinship I felt with you because we are both gearheads. But your unwillingness to let this go and your attacks (I don't care if founded or not) on people I know to be generous and smart have made me change my mind. I'm sad about that - I feel like I'm losing a friend. Please stop. Don't you get how useless a flame war on an internet chat site is?

You are not successful in "defending yourself" if that is what you think you are doing. All you are accomplishing is hurting people. Even me.

Well, the reason you should not respond is simple. If you continue to regurgitate an old issue, it keeps bringing it up to the surface, like vomit in your throat. While most people don't know about any specific issue that may or may not have occurred between you both, by constantly writing about them, it reminds everyone off the issues, and make this forum feel like a junior high school dance.

I hope this helps to answer your question as to why you should not respond. Now lets think happy thoughts, shall we? :D

And just to change the subject (and for once I might be able to steer something back towards the thread topic instead of away from it)
Not sure if its really a 'moocher' by definition, but it is somebody asking for cash. Though, I do like that it is parody of all the actual moochers that 'really really really want to go to burning man'

You know i really can't stand it when people say "the playa provides". Fuckin bullshit, I mean it will provide as long as you bring your shit. I'd like to see on of these "hippies" or whatever there called, go out to the Black Rock Desert and not take anything because "the playa will provide" and see how long they last...goddamn it!

Okay rant over

ABSO FUCKIN LUTELY - I meet newbies who see the eplaya and BMAN website, watch some videos on You-tube and read an article or two come in with completely off the wall expectations.

We had one guy end up rolling through our camp with money looking for supplies. Another gal - one of our friends mates brought a couplke of changes of clothes - thats it. She expected US to provide everything.

Heh. I don't care for that saying either, because it's usually half a joke (by people who know better, to other people who know better) and could easily be misinterpreted by those who want to.

At best, "the playa provides" represents a strange and uncanny moment of Grace in which you could not have expected something--should not have expected something, & probably didn't--and got lucky anyway.

Lucky and blessed, not stupid and reckless. :D

I still feel that as a relative newbie to eplaya and a BM burgin i should be doing more mooching it seems to be expected, the trouble is keep getting the stuff i would mooch for without asking before i realise i could mooch for it.

has anyone got any suggestions for things i could mooch for?

GD, pre-event mooching typically is for:
- ticket
- ride
- accommodation = r.v., camp with shower, food service, and mutant vehicle use (no investment in planning, set up, or delivery to playa)
- d.j. slot in an established dance arena

an enterprising moocher could try for all of the above. points for creativity in explaining the level, and cause of such a desperate need, and or the useless goods or services offered in exchange. It seems important also to note how "chill" you are. girl(s) plural also seem to expect having a certain cachet.

GD, pre-event mooching typically is for:
- ticket GOT THAT
- ride GOT THIS TOO
- accommodation = r.v., camp with shower, food service, and mutant vehicle use (no investment in planning, set up, or delivery to playa) ALL SORTED (THANKS TS, DOC, MDF AND OTHERS )
- d.j. slot in an established dance arena WELL I COULD IF THEY WANTED THE FLOOR CLEARED no problems with girls offering me something for my creative non-mooching

Is there any other event that seems to find it acceptable for potential attendants to come on line and beg for a ticket? Thinking about it, this is a very strange 'custom' associated with this event. I could imagine the response if someone were to come online and beg for tickets so that they could attend a Lady Gaga concert for example. Yet such despicable behavior is acceptable here. I think ticket begging should be against the TOS, as it is obviously not in the spirit of the principles of burning man as I understand them.

I agree whole heartedly. We should add begging for tickets to the TOS, barter is different though. I have always considered it bad form and in poor taste to do so, thats why I started this thread.

Knowing someone has had months to plan for a static fixed date event, and that the ticket price is not the largest expense kills me. It is just the easiest to beg for online apparently.

If someone wants to go they will find a way,

just my 2 cents.

Bartering is a good idea. Is bartering sex for a ticket OK with the TOS? as often that seems to be the undercurrent of many of the ticket barter posts.
