What's your dream job?

Post by TomServo » Thu May 05, 2011 6:58 pm

I would die contented, if I finally owned my own hot dog cart.
Image

It would be called "Screamin' Weenies". I'd run it in Union Square, SF, and put Stanley Steemers out of business. His hot dogs suck anyways! I'd serve New York style dogs, with Sabretts onion sauce, sauerkraut, and anything the health dept. allows. Speaking of which...the health dept. doesn't inspect Stan's carts...they just walk by and put a sticker on it.

I don't know if it was the playa, but a gentleman had his own cart at BM 2005 or 2006, and those hot dogs were awesome! This has been a dream of mine, way before that, but, he inspired me to make it happen.

What about you? Maybe posting your dream job might catch the eye of someone, who could help you out!

Well, if you are talking about a job that has very low probability of providing a livable income, Retrofrolic is my element and given my druthers, I'd oversee that place all day everyday!

TomServo - food trailers made out of old campers are all the rage in Austin. My son and I have talked about opening a beer and brats place here in my little german heritage town. We have a couple expensive german food places here, but not german street food. I think it would go over HUGELY in this little "destination city".

However, as hokey as this sounds I want to teach again. The most fulfilling job I've ever had was teaching computer classes to adults. It really thrills me to no end to help make someone's job a little easier or help someone who is techy nervous get comfy with a computer. When I started at my company they were going from old dumb terminals to windows. Survey said 85% of the company had never touched a mouse. I taught them. It is STILL incredibly satisfying to walk by some of their cubicles and watch them work. Or better yet, watch them teach someone else something that I had taught them. Love love love it. Then we implemented JD Edwards, then a mapping/dispatch system. I got to learn ground floor, then teach. Awesome. Man, I miss teaching.

Are you kidding? My old cart(Stan's) in Union square made about $3000 a day.

Yeah Tom, I agree.
I've been thinking of how I can come up with a good $40,000 and buy a two axle concession trailer and a Dodge pick up with a Cummins to pull the trailer. I'd have the trailer professionally done with sinks, deep fryers, storage, refrigeration etc.
I'd offer deep fried hot dogs, hot links, polish sausage etc.
I'd call it, Diesel Fried Hot Dogs, because the used cooking oil I would sell to a place that makes biodiesel which is wht I'd run the truck on.
Take it fairs, carnivals, events in Carson City, Virginia City, Yerington, Fallon etc.

Or self employed as a home inspector......which today, probably wouldn't be doing that good.

@ tamarakay... my dreams in high school, were teaching either music or history.

@ TheCatman... When I still had my class A, I thought of building the worlds biggest hot dog cart, out of a 53 foot dry van.

I love this thread.....it's exudes possitivity vibes. I can't honestly say this is my dream job (yet) but it's my "it feels good to help people and feel good about making a good living at it" job haha

I'm in the final steps of completing the requirments of being a superived visitation monitor. We make it possible to have non custodial parents visit with their children in a safe "governed" setting. I'm looking forward to getting out retail and into a actually making a difference kinda job :)

It may sound cheesy, but being a burner, you are making a difference. I always say, absorb what you learn on the playa, and take it home with you. I want a hot dog now...

My son-in-law did exactly that over 5 years ago. He makes more on the weekend doing events than he does with his catering company during the week! And the bonus is it is ALL CASH. All he makes are curley fries, funnel cakes, roasted corn on the cob, and lemonade. He clears $5k per weekend at rural events in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho.

My dream job would be having a little diner, that serves comfort food, good coffee, homemade pies and cakes, the best burgers in town, and the best customers! It'll be a small, friendly place open for breakfast and lunch.

Or be the town mean old cat lady that lives in the cul de sac.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I love my job. and this year part of my job will be to visit with about 600 burners as they travel to Black Rock City. Also, the folks who just stop by for a day or two are all so very interesting. I make hot dogs sometimes and they are so very special

I propose the First Annual ?? Chilly Cook Off. If you are interested, birthday boy, I challange you. Naturally, hot dogs are only as good as the fixings they are made with. Chilly, properly prepared, can make the best dog even better. How about 8-27-11 here at my place??

My dream job is to have NO job. To be independently wealthy. I have had a plethora of jobs from managing a dungeon to working for a church, and everyday I wake up and hit the alarm...it makes me unhappy.

I want no job.

So...I suppose my dream job is be a rich wife, and marry someone who can support me flying all over the world doing volunteer work.

I'd also love to have my own vintage store - or be a buyer for one. I'm hoping to start selling stuff on Ebay soon, to fundraise for 2011.

Or find someone who'd be interested in giving me a place to store my stuff and cover my expenses in exchange for me keeping the place clean and cooking (leaving meals frozen or easy to make when I'm off in Bosnia counseling rape victims).

I am not one of those people who needs to "keep busy," or whatever. No job is my dream job.

Li'l Abner was a Mattress Tester for the Stunned Ox mattress company. not bad "work" to get paid for. I have been looking for this position for 6 decades but I guess people who hold those jobs don't quit, darn it.

I agree with C.f.M my dream job would be not to have to work and be independently wealthy. Then I could funnel money to charities and do hands on work.
I would of loved to have been an actress though, darn stage fright just got in the way. I like to pretend
