Locating a lost friend?

Post by chotii » Tue Jul 27, 2004 1:33 am

I've been trying to track down a friend (lived near me in Seattle for a while, then moved to CA, my husband and I attended his awesome wedding....we've since lost track of him). I know he goes to Burning Man every year and he was on the staff in 2002 (medical team). But not in 2003. I'm not even sure he's still alive right now. He's dropped off the face of the 'net.

His name is Nick Baban. Is there any clever way to get in touch with the guy? Might somebody know him, and point him (or his wife) at this thread? I know it's a long shot. Burning Man is a BIG event. But since he was a staffer, I'm holding out a little bit of hope.

Pirate is one of my favorite people. He is/was the BRR Bard. Lovely, gentle, creative guy.

Have I told you today that I love you Pirate?

I'm remembering one of the first times I met him, now, out at the Ocean Beach burn, singing a BRC version of Barrett's Privateers.

o/` Oh, I wish I was in Black Rock now.... o/`

I wish you were, too, Pirate.

See, I didn't know he sang. I met him on a MUSH game (AmberMUSH) way back....oh, god, in about 1994. He went by the name Jakob, and of course Jakob was a pirate. I have no idea if he was always 'Pirate Nick' before that. One night he got himself locked in the building at UNY because he was up late playing, and there was this panic while another friend (who had a key) sneaked in to break him out. Eventually he moved to Seattle and we got to see a good bit of him, but then he met his wife and moved to CA to be with her. My husband and I went to their wedding. Gorgeous wedding. They read Walt Whitman. Then at the reception, Nick got down on the floor in his tuxedo to play with my then-9-or-so months old daughter, and it was just so wonderful, seeing him playing and working off his nerves by being silly. :)

I'd like to hear him sing. Heck, I'd like to hear him say "hi!" but somehow I doubt I'll be making it to Burning Man any time soon - I've got 4 little kids now and BM doesn't seem terribly kid-appropriate.

Yooohooooo, Nick! Where aaaaare you?
