Bad.

"Experience Burning Man

Who it’s for: The kind of people who go to Burning Man.

Biggest problem: Portable toilets with long lines.

The solution: Bring your own RV.

Where’s the money? Not here—it’s a “gift economyâ€

That's just idiotic.

Some of the craziest people and palces are in New England, which is very unlike the useless center of the country.

Sunset readers don't actually go anywhere outside their comfort zone, so we're safe.
Just watch out for AARP members.

Hey AntiM
Them's fighting words! I am an AARP member, a Sunset reader, and a burner. By the way, the Burning Man Organization should offer an AARP discount.
Best Regards,
Leo

LOL, I'm an AARP member too. I just got my Burning Man article from Via magazine over a decade ago. Neener neener.

A Triple A discount would be good, or a military discount! Vets make excellent burners.

The Air Force reserve won't let me out (contrary to what they say over and over about only wanting people who want to be there) but that doesn't make me shy about asking for a military discount. It may be sleazy, I think.

A military discount on Burnign Man tickets would be a hoot, there may or may not be a "novelty" store that may or may not give a deep military discount, if I were to go to places on the "do not visit" list.

There are a bunch of vets in ePlaya and I'm sure there will be more than one reservist or active duty military person there. In a way it would be fun to find them.

You'd be surprised at the number of vets. I know burners who went into the service shortly after their burns, and would be back in a heartbeat if they could get their schedules to align. It isn't off limits.

We have three vets in camp, two active duty who can't wait to return, and I know a number of others have served. In our camp, it is all Navy.

It would be a hoot to see theme camps with old Class A signs displayed out front.

Navy folks are a hoot, the blue uniforms looks pretty cool as well, but I imagine they are hot in the sun. I have a large, ceramic coffee cup with some Navy logos on it (sort of sporty like for a school) on my desk here at Randolph AFB.

It was funnier in Air Education and Training Command than it is here at the lame base newspaper. They were smarter there and had a better sense of humor. My tip jar and Cletus the velociraptor who guarded it got laughs from generals. Here, the snooty and worthless staff sergeants wouldnt see the joke.

I often wear an army ACU shirt in the sun and/or for work and adventures. I removed the rank and branch velcro and have a "SUPER EVIL" name tape on the name velcro. The shirt is very comfortable and well designed, including the tailoring and placement of pockets. The camoflauge doesn't really blend in with much, but it doesn't completely stand out either -- at least in central and coastal Texas. I keep the sleeves rolled back one or two and not cinched down (more 'combat" than the nerdy office look)

I have a subdued American flag on the left sleeve and if I could ever find a Gonzo Fist patch, I would have it there as well. If someone made a Burning Man velcro patch, it would be on the other arm.

The Army-issue cheap, desert combat boots are retarded comfortable in the semi-arid climate here and along the coast. I'll have the shirt and boots on a good deal of the time on the playa. The shirt is comfortable in the sun but a little hot in the shade. On the other hand, the Air Force uniform is simply horrible and not designed to fit humans.

I've stayed at NAS Corpus Christi when I visit the Gulf coast (when not camping) and plan to do it again. And my family is all Navy people. My uncle taught me basic marine navigation when I was a child in St. Michael's Maryland on the Chesepeake Bay.

I like coasties and navy people. I can do without most of the AF people I met (no, not ALL of them). Army and Marines? well, they're on a case by case basis.

Oops! Thread drift! Sorry about that ...

The volunteer work I plan to do at Media Mecca will be similar to the parts of my civilian contractor and reservist work that I like, just none of the bullshit and way more tits.

I mostly wore dungarees, which have gone away in favor of blue camo uniforms which look like dyed Army knock offs. The blue crackerjacks are indeed warm, although I never got to wear them myself, I had a wool suit jacket and skirt for dress up. In summer, it is white crackerjacks, which are just not as sharp. The new "peanut butters" are simply awful. Enlisted Navy should never wear khaki.

I like the vivid negtive parts of it. The more people we talk out of it the better IMO.

I have talked several people out of going, telling them how much they would probably hate it. I was doing us all a favor. Seriously.

all branches of service (real or BRC) are welcome to stop by M*A*S*H 4207th for a high five, hoorah & maybe even a beer.

Vets are awesome. Keep up the good work.

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.
