:D
I guess that means I need to hit 185 by then! It's a race!
it broke her leg
Like I said, horrible and dangerous -- and also horribly dangerous, I might add. If any of you ever come across one of these, please be careful. The worst risk, seems to me, is in knocking your teeth out with the flailing handlebar when you reach for the off-switch. Such horrid design it makes me wonder if there was a law suit?

Normal BP -- that's fabulous, M! So few of us manage to have that in this crazy World.

Got to the gym today, did the water class and a few laps. A little winded, but it felt great. All on one bus token and a transfer.

Leave two weeks from today to run the Boston Marathon. Ran 14 miles today. Poorly. What a difference the temperture, 86 degrees today in Sacramento versus 48 degrees over the previous weekend, makes. I like it cooler. But on the plus side, the women along the American River Bike Trail certainly looked sexier today than last Sunday. By a long shot.

Moon, if you lost 20 lbs with little or no effort then I am afraid we cannot be friends, jk :wink: Seriously how did you do this?

I have lost a few but not enough. I am going to start KAIAFIT Boot camp on Monday. It's 5 days a week hard ass body conditioning and yoga with a nutritional counterpart. It starts off with a week of detox and then 5 weeks of no sugar, white flour, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, no alcohol......fuck. I don't drink alot but do love a beer or 2 a couple times a week. And I will miss my diet pepsi the most...

We have coaches that will run us through our workouts and that we report our food diaries to. Wish me luck...I'm scared :lol:

It is OK to be scared! Normal human emotion. Go, go, go!

Jon, yes Corvallis most likely.

A couple of weeks ago I had to fast three days for a routine stomach examination (all well), and I fear I pigged out afterward. But it was actually NOT difficult to go three days without food! I drank water whenever I felt hungry. Wonder if I can do it again, and NOT pig out afterward?

Ummm, if a person (maybe me, lol) has... oh say, over 20 lbs to drop, those first 20 are the easiest dear! In my defense I am still packin' an extra 20. (I'm told I carry it well, haha)
I think I simply changed my diet, took easy walks, also eliminated Tomatoes...Antim's eliminaion diet rocks! Ginger rocks! :wink:

Yay, Moon!

My hospital stay and subsequent "resting" vacation are doing me no favors. But things will smooth out soon enough.

Way to go, Lucky!

Hey Moon, at least you are back-sliding.

I want to get back to the gym, paying for it and not going is annoying. Today is so wet and cold I just didn't want to try. Tomorrow should be the day.

Help! I have backslid! Weighed in at 200 pounds this morning, after getting down to 194 a few weeks ago. Too much comfort food -- bread, ice cream etc.

And it seems blood pressure is tied to the excessive weight -- my blood pressure is up a little also.

So now.... ??? Well, I managed to go three days without food when I had to fast for a medical check, so maybe that is what I will try now. Must get back to 194 quickly so I can resume "on schedule". Target still 185.

You could try a clear liquid fast; I get to do those now and then. True fasting slows my metabolism even more, so I go with nutritious liquids. I have to be careful so as not to yo-yo.

Clear liquid is what I was on for my stomach check, and it wasn't a big problem since I had a goal to reach in just three days. Problem is, I've been pigging out ever since! I suppose I need a more definite goal again, like 194 by a certain date, "or else".

Uh huh, here's food for thought; we ain't gonna fit into our favorite clothes for burning man if we don't get our butts in gear, yikes!

Maybe I'll try a man-skirt afterall, gulp.

Elliot, here's my trick in addition to the exercise bandwagon: I hate wasting food/money, so if I buy a big tub of mixed greens, I'm going to have at least 3 dinner salads in 1 week, though not every day. (Let's not get crazy.) Typical (large) salad:

* organic mixed romaine & spinach
* shredded cabbage (optional, but nice)
* 2 chicken tenderloins, diced (from a bag of frozen ones, microwaved 2:15 each side, your wattage may vary)
* julienned carrots
* red onion, diced
* spoonful of minced garlic (from a jar)
* croutons
* tablespoon of shredded cheese (this ain't Siberia)
* black pepper
* a little Sriracha hot chili sauce (optional)
* Newman's Own Light Caesar (It has enough fat to be tasty, & help me absorb the nutrients from the salad) or even Annie's Goddess Dressing (fattier, oh well.)

Plus a glass of red wine, or glass of low-fat milk (protein).

A male friend of mine with similar fitness goals makes a lot of salads with canned shrimp, and experiments with various dressings.

Another good dinner: Baked or Sauteéd salmon in citrus juice, ginger, garlic, black pepper and maybe a low-sodium sauce, paired with steamed veggies or fresh fruit. Or even a lean pork chop from time to time, and veggies.

If I have salads often enough, I miss the vitamins when I don't. The trick is to not make it so austere that you feel gloomy, or so over-the-top that it's just as bad as a bacon cheeseburger . . . although I've found that even a fancy, not completely low-fat salad keeps me fitter than almost the same caloric amount of 1) processed stuff with 2) fewer vitamins, which just keeps me hungrier.

recipe for mean green lean smoothie;

1 cup blue berries or strawberries, 1 apple, 1/2 cup water-put in blender and blend then add
1/2 cup of kale, 1 cup fresh spinach, 1/2 lemon, 1 cucumber blend all together (you can add more water if you like, but not needed).

This is a really ugly drink but it is full of fiber and is low in calories. It is kind of chunky and I find it pretty filling. It really doesn't taste as bad as it sounds or looks, in fact it is kind of tasty...

I had never tasted kale until I tried this (weird veggie)

I'm trying to throw on some muscle. Off to a cheeseburger and fries. Maybe I'll choke down a Vanilla shake as well.

Mmmm, maybe I'll bake some sweet potato "fries" for supper. I had leftover refried beans with mild green chiles and cheese on a whole wheat tortilla for lunch.

Salad and lettuce had been bothering me for months now, although spinach is okay. I think it had something to do with the diverticulitis. I am wary of greens in general now, which is a setback for my improved eating plan. High fiber isn't what bothers me, but greens? Splat city, even well washed organics. I'm trying to figure out types and amounts and balances.

I'm adding a tiny amount of yogurt back into my diet, so far so good. Less than half a cup daily hasn't made my arthritis act up, although I'm sniffling more than usual.

Craving ice cream, but since I have an easy counter top ice cream maker and rice milk/coconut milk, I should be able to do something healthful yet will hit the spot.

What's the word on the bottles of Ensure in the vitamin section of the grocery store? Surprisingly good "milk shake" flavor, I found. Of course, I suppose it is expensive -- I neglected to note the price. But it ought to be healthy? Good substitute for ice cream?

LOL, after my hospital stays, you have no idea of the depth of my contempt and hatred of Ensure and/or Boost.

Too much milk, and I can't have the soy versions. Pretty much a no go. Rice ice milk will do.
