Leela - Welcome! Make sure you read every word on the website -- including the first timer's guide, ten principles and everything else. At least twice.

http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/

You'll find loads of information and crazy shit here in ePlaya as well, some might even be useful.

It's my first time to BRC and I'm pretty stoked. I'm going with an open mind but also as prepared as I can be, at least the mechanical things like weather, sleeping and not getting sunburned.

See you on the playa!

I know, right?

(Are you okay? Come sit down in the shade and drink this. Don't ask me to explain what's in it; it's very complicated.)

Who do you plan to camp with this year?
And what parts of Denver do you live in?
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

I think that's a wise decision, provided you can raise and safely stake your own tent and shade structure, and have read the Survival Guide.

O! ok, you had me worried for a second- was a little worried you might be a 'the playa provides' type of camp.
Hell yeah! Get a 10x20 canopy. With four people its pretty easy to put up. If you're alone though, recruit some neighbors.
Or keep in touch over the next couple months and maybe we can figure something out.
If we do get placed, then you would know where to find us, and myself and a couple camp mates could come give you a hand. Though, almost all of Monday we will be setting up our own camp.

What part of Denver are you in?

Down the street from you! (actually I'm sitting out front of your house right now! Amazing how efficient IP trackers have become.... I'm totally just fucking around)

We hit the Target on Colo Blvd. and Leedsdale all the time. I live at about Monaco and Evans.

..........I'm starting to wonder if we might already know each other.......

I recommend going without the theme camp. It's a lot of work, a lot of politics and personalities to manage. Once you've been once or thrice, you might be feeling the need to contribute more, and a theme camp is a good way to do it. You're from Colorado, you already know much of what you need to know about camping and LNT and all that stuff. Hot, high dessert, high wind (very very high wind), and near constant dust, very fine dust. wall tent, stake it down hard, good solution. We use a costco carport and trucker straps.
The handbasket to hell is leaving. Hop in world!

Moronicity:

There is a huge Burner community in Denver-Boulder. Jump in! The regional burn, Apogaea is coming up June 8th or 9th. It should be a wonderful time and a great way to met peeps. Go to www.Apogaea.com for details. There are too many internet groups serving this community, but currently Denver Burns on Facebook is pretty popular. Colorado-BM on Yahoo is the old stand-by and still in much use.

I disagree with a previous poster. Go with a theme camp your first time. You will have a lot of experienced Burners to lend a hand and you will have a lot of infrastructure already provided for you. Just be willing to pitch in and avoid the big mega camps. This will be my 7th drama-free Burn and I've always camped with theme camps
