I have it on good authority that this year BRC's undercover LEO force is to be augmented with a selection of hand-picked and vetted citizens with concealed carry weapon permits.

So, rule breakers, if you see a guy with a suspicious bulge in his rooster-suit you better straighten up and fly right.

I love that last picture. :)

Seems to me that Stone wasn't so much a troll as a somewhat dirty mirror. There are various threads on this board with folk mouthing off about how they'd hurt other folk for various transgressions. Wether it's guys being "hopeful," about catching someone stealing their bike or spouting off about how abusers need to be beaten. And so on.

And what did the mirror reveil? Instant name calling and hostility, rhetorical versions of the violence within us it was placed there to show us. Interesting, to my way of seeing and thinking. May not be to yours, and that's cool, but I think Stone has pulled a bit of educational art out of the e-playa and I personally learned something from it. If you haven't, I'd respectfully point out the opportunity you have to look again...

Good point, Ron.

Still, i think that what StoneSock is missing is that there is a big difference between taking non-injuring actoins to save lives and physically hurting someone because you are annoyed. Lumping it all into 'vigilante justice' is being blind to the forces we are dealing with.

Art cars that endanger the very lives of burners are far more than a nuisance. Also a nuisance are people who can't use their words when words are all that are necessary.

Further, vigilante justice would be more along the lines of applying your own community rules and standards to everyone else and then enforcing them. The kinds of things we've been talking about are largely community guidelines that are *more or less* concensed upon. Other disputes have to be worked out, too... but it's not as if people don't know that you can't drive 25mph on the playa.

Ron, you are my hero. I owe you a big kiss when I meet you on the playa.

Troll And Puppet Without A Cause

Post by gilmore » Tue Jul 27, 2004 11:22 am

Ron,

I respectfully disagree. Yes there are various threads WITHIN TOPICS on this board with folk mouthing off about how they'd hurt other folk for various transgressions. But they weren’t topics initiated by a first time user who seems to know their way around this board pretty good.

Stone Troll Sock Puppet (STSP) is not only a troll, but is a dirty sock with an axe to grind. STSP begins by stating that “like many veteran burners on this forum…”, but it was STSP ‘s first post. Then STSP waits a bit, and uses previous quotes to attempt to contradict/flame Bob and Tancorix.

The INSTANT Name calling and hostility started with STSP. “I want to bash them… and knock them over” along with “I want to cut the power cords for justice”. There is a large difference between vigilante justice and Playa justice that The Judge referenced.

I don’t believe STSP has shown us anything besides the fact that he/she doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to be anything other than a sock on the hand of a pathetic excuse for a weak human being.

gilmore, that's more like it.

In another thread, in another far more developed context, I admitted to the fact that if I caught someone stealing my project I could not honestly say I could restrain myself.

Huge ass difference between that and bludgeoning people for peeing on the playa.

Huge ass difference between that and obviously setting up a target on this forum.

Ron, thank you for illustrating the point I was trying to make. I'm sorry things had to get a bit ugly in order to make it.

And Rian Jacksock makes a very good point to follow up:
Still, i think that what StoneSock is missing is that there is a big difference between taking non-injuring actoins to save lives and physically hurting someone because you are annoyed.
You are correct, Rian, I was missing that.

You illustrate that (at least within E-playa) most people agree 'vigilante (playa) justice' is acceptable when it comes to things other than physical violence. This is why, in my original post, no one objected to the comment about cutting power cords.

Cutting power cords, slashing tires, and otherwise disabling vehicles that you personally judge to be 'more than a nuisance' is acceptable enforcment of community standards.

I'll remember to bring my heavy duty bolt cutters, as I'm sure many of us will now. In case anyTHING becomes more than a nuisance to me, I'm going to start chopping away!

TIMBER!!! I'VE GOT COMMUNITY STANDARDS TO UPHOLD!

Why not leave such things to the armed and trained professionals and their chosen civilian adjuncts?

Why get involved in activities with the potential to escalate into physical confrontation when keepers of the peace exist in the community?

uh, not with me.

Disabling a repeat offending, dangerous vehicle is one thing, cutting the power to an annoying (to you) project is another. I would hope most folks could see the difference.

It was late, It was dark, I was lost. I had to pee... does that make me evil? Should someone have knocked me over? If they did I would hunt them down and pee on them in their sleep!

oh wait.... some people would probably pay good money for that

Q: What can I do about Playa infractions and what kind of creative ways can I deal with them?

A: This is why you brought your megaphone. Use it.
Shyly dump some piddle in front of their tent.
Jump onto the hood of their moving vehicle next time it's going 5mph.
Get really loud at 5am (my favorite).

Ditto that Rangers are not cops. They might help you get creative on your hard-on for vigilantism however
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.
