Post by Yonder Burn » Tue Jul 27, 2004 4:07 am

Hi Doc Pyro et al.
Great to see everyone online here again, and see another fabulous night brewing on Thurs. Sorry this green yonder man is so late in getting online here. Please count me in on the Guest List Doc! Can someone tell me or remind me what time its on this year to save lazy me going through the last few pages of comms?

Yo Yonderman, it will be (as it has for the past three years) at 6 p.m. Thursday at BDC&WB in the lovely village of Wheeeee!ville. Did you see the pic of you and Zane on my URL? If not, check it out under Theme Camps 2004, click on Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro URL and hit Meet & Greet for last 2003. I think you're the very first shot!

I'd love to attend...so count me in. I hope like the hard stuff....that's all my South Beach diet will permit. Oh yeah...and Dr. Pyro, could you please provide some low carb snacks.....JUST KIDDING. (except about the hard stuff).

Anyway, the timing in my humor has been way off for about a month so I'll try to get that fixed before the meet n' greet. Can't wait to meet most of you.

You are all very much welcome. I expect that both events will take place on Playa time, which is one reason that I'm only planning on only going to one. (We haven't set an exact time yet.) I just hope the Playa time of my wedding is a magical time for me and that whatever each and every one of you chooses to do on Thursday is magical for you.
I will get there early (Friday before the gate opens) and come back late (Tuesday after the burn, most likely) so you have plenty of time (on this end) to track me down.
And thanks again, Ivy, Jezebellinhell and Dr. Pyro for making it so clear to me that I am welcome at the meet n greet and that I will be missed. I feel so close to the e-playans and I've never met most of you. (Eyes tear a little.)

Count me in! Hopefully I will not be so overwhelmed by my first time to BMan that I will be a dork and space it. I have been known to do that from time to time.

One of my favorite things is meeting people online and then getting to meet them in person. I think it's a truly unique way to get to know people and I find that I know those people better than people I just met in person like a normal human being that actually steps away from a computer once in awhile. ;)

I finally remembered what made me space the MG last year. It was on the same day as Critical Tits. How am I supposed to remember appointments when I'm riding around topless with a bunch of beautiful girls?

That's not entirely accurate. Critical Tits is always on Friday as it was last year. But your point about riding around topless is right on the mark.

In all honesty, there are some folks here who drive me apeshit. I try to keep that to myself but it is true. One thing I try to avoid in life is spending time with folks that suck. Is this a reason to be cagey about the meet and greet?

It's your time, Stuart, do with it as you will.

That being said, just because an on-line persona drives you nuts doesn't mean that the actual person is going to tweak you the same way. We are, ultimately flesh and blood animals, and what we type can only be a rough approximation of who we are in person. Of course, it cuts both ways. Maybe someone can hold it together on-line in a manner they are incapable of in the 3-D breathing world.

I myself am a little giddy that we are being visited again by Don Muerto--the Necrotic Pinata is definately on my wanna-meet list. Danged if I know why. Have to confess that I'm morbidly curious about Rob the Wop. I hope Angry Butterfly makes it and that I run into her.
As a first year presence on e-playa, I don't know a lot of the old rivalries and dislikes that older e-playans are so aware of. I'm not really sure how DVD Burner illicited that hatred that comes his way. (I have a disconcerting habit of thinking of the older e-playans as a bloc of persons who know each other and whose friendship I cannot penatrate.)
PJ has a mysterious reputation too. What was he advocating back on OldPlaya that made him the focus of certain jokes? (Besides the obvious--it's just the lack of context.) I just want to have a wider sence of who people are.
Maybe it's just the fact that I'm a life long bookworm and relate better to people when I read them than when I meet them.
But certainly it's like anything else on the playa--you choose whether or not to participate and how far. Even with your avatar, are we going to recognize you? Are you so polite that you cannot wiggle out of an unwanted conversation in 90 seconds? Find something else to do that evening and don't give it a second thought. It's not like attending the meet n greet is a prerequisite for continued membership on the board.

Even as a Johhny-come-Lately to the board I am looking forward to the meet and greet, as long as I'm not line-itemed off of the open invitation :-)

It's just one more opportunity to meet with other people under pretexts other than "Hey, nice dayglow fishwings! Thanks for the unidentifiable liquor!"

In the event that you truely are unable to deal with someone in person, you have the advantage of being able to tie EL wire tightly around their neck for a good tumble on the Playa.

In the event that you truely cannot resist someone in person, you have the advantage of being able to tie EL wire tightly around their wrists for a good tumble on the Playa.

Whatever tickles you. Face to face meetings have their advantages!

CryptoChukka,
Hey, I don't know where your wedding is going to be (I'm too lazy right now to read the whole thread), but I for one would most definately be into romping through your reception following/during the meat n' greet. If you haven't already, let me/us know where your wedding is going to be. How else will I know where to bring the wedding gift?

Neither am I. I hung out with DVDB back in May when I was out in San Fran. He's a really cool, intelligent and articulate guy. We went on a bar-hopping tour about town that was a total blast. When I first joined the eplaya, I too noticed that DVDB seemed to get pigeonholed as a crusty old curmudgeon quite a bit. Admittedly, I am ignorant of any history that may have transpired before I joined the eplaya, but DVDB is definately a cool guy in my book.

How sweet!
There are 2 ESD camps, Fire Camp (at the 3 o'clock plaza) and Med Camp at the 9 o'clock. We want to camp at Fire Camp, because of certain tension between us and someone else at Med Camp. Brass wants us at Med Camp because of demographics. I don't know how it will work out. Try Fire Camp first.

Hello Doc and all. I was there last year (I brought Bernie, he gave you the barbie shirt with the skull and cross bones). I brought Sangria. Unfortunately, Bernie is not planning to attend this year, but I'll be back with more sangria. Please add me to your guest list.

That's too bad about Bernie. Tell him his Barbie coverall will be back again this year! I mean, it just screams Burning Man.
