Greetings to the Burning Community! I just completed college and, since it will no longer conflict with the schedule, am planning on attending Burning Man this year. I have been attending Pennsic for 11 years (this year will be my 12th), and have been told by people that attend both events that BM is something I should plan on doing as soon as possible. Which means this year.
I haven't purchased my ticket yet. I am going to peruse the forums to try and buy a ticket from someone that needs to get rid of one for one reason or another. Additionally, I need to figure out how I am going to arrive. I travel via bicycle but have read that such transportation, while viable within the event, is not the most recommended mode of transport to the playa itself. I am hoping to arrange a ride-share with someone on these boards or on Craigslist. Regardless, I am sure it will all work out.
I am excited to bask in the experience that is Burning Man, meeting the people, engaging the art, utilizing the trade-based economy, and fulfilling my dream of becoming a burner.
Retired Student Seeks First Burning-Man Experience
Congrats on your graduation, and welcome aboard!
It may be hair-splitting, but the BRC economy is gift-based, not trade-based. That said, if you have two apples, and someone has two oranges, there is no reason not to swap so you both have one of each fruit. But the basic premise is giving, rather than bartering.
Right, you will not be traveling the last 100 miles by bicycle, for two reasons: One is that you will need to carry water and other supplies, and the other is that the road is very narrow with no shoulder.
See you on the Playa!

DimLink, I used to live in Norwalk OH myself, back in the day. Is Barry's restaurant still there? (I think that was it's name, right on Main St/Rt. 20) Good old Huron County. Willard, Celeryville, and Norwalk. Good places to be from. I got arrested for selling Bibles without a permit and was thrown in jail in Willard. Oh the memories.

That really explains a lot!Dr. Pyro wrote:DimLink, I used to live in Norwalk OH myself, back in the day. Is Barry's restaurant still there? When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
