Maybe under a tent floor or in a shade structure. I think everyone here can find at least one use for them.kman wrote:Looks like it would make an excellent flooring material for the floor of a yurt, to cut down on the tarp's crinkle factor when you walk on it.
Not essential, but if it's no bother to bring it out, I'd love to have some.
If someone else has an actual important use for it, however, by all means have at it.

I have tons o' stuff from working at an engineering university for 13 years. It was cheaper for them to give it to me than have it hauled, heh heh.
So I have all this mecha-goodness racked and stacked and mounded in my shop. I can't get at the grinder or rollaways, hell, can't hardly walk thru the dump. I amassed all these components to build lotsa neat stuff with. I did build lotsa neat stuff. But then the shit just kept coming in. In order to be able to build anything I have to get rid of a significant amount of remarkably good shit.
I have:
Counters / timers
PID temperature controllers
Solenoid valves water / oil / gas from 1/16 barbed to 1" NPT
Cord caps from 120 - 480 VAC, single and three phase - most are twist lock
DC motor controllers (120 VAC to 90 VDC, won't work for MV's / EV's)
Electric motors, all flavors
Stepper motors
Tubing - vinyl, PE, and licorice
Hydraulic cylinders, mostly < 2" single acting, most are pretty short throws from 3 to 10 inches. Have one monster (gave me a hernia, literally), i think it's at least 50 ton, double acting (the ports are 3/4"NPT), double ended (rod on either end), massive flange mount. I have no desire to haul it to BRC, gotta come out, have some dinner, and pick it up.
Industrial drive chain and sprockets from sawmills
30mm oil-tight switches and indictor lights (these are like the ones on pendants for gantry cranes or like you see on the control boards for carnival rides)
A few pumps, all 120VAC
Baldor AC variable frequency drive, three phase
Lotsa valves - gate, ball, can't remember
Pressure gauges
I've been trying to decide whether to sell it on ebay, sell to a surplus equipment outfit, or junk it. It really stresses me out. I mainly want to get stuff into peoples hands who are going to use it. I didn't pay a dime for 98% of it so I'm not losing a thing by gifting bits and boxfulls to fellow mad mechanics.
Half the stuff is buried beneath the other half but I have rough ideas where things are, I think. Can't say it'll be like calling the parts house but PM me and we'll see. It would be so much better if you come by and find what you need. I'm about 45 mins west of Portland, Oregon.
I'll bring the reasonabe stuff to BRC. Some stuff's too big or heavy.
Blah blah blah, lookit me go...

That's what I begin with every time I open the shop door. I then progress to 4, 5, and 6 letter words.
In my perfect world, I'd like to build stuff with it all, convert the mill and lathe to CNC, repair the argon-ion lasers gathering dust, etc. At this point I just want the space :)
Speaking of lasers, I have a spare Hughes HeNe (red @ a true 532nm) laser, the good old gas n glass housed in an aluminum tube about the size of a paper towel tube. Black anodized. Practically no resale value because lasers are small enough now to hide 'em up your nose or other handy orifices. This is a scientific laser. It does need 120VAC though. Probably run fine from an inverter. It's a true 5mW, not the supposed 5mW that the dollar store foists upon the unsuspecting.
It would look great shining straight up thru a nipple at the Booby Bar. I would even pull another from the collection to make a matched set. I'd even install and wire one and walk them thru the other.
Maybe Doc wants to get with the times and what says 21st century concentration camp better than creative laser annhilation. Hell, get a galvy trashcan lid, mount the laser, hoist it up and call it a space based weapons platform. Or maybe he can use it in the back of his RV.
Doc: "Say, I've got something I want to show you in the back of my RV..."
The mark, peeking thru the door: "Ooh! Lasers!"
Doc: "You know what? I think you would fit perfectly into a spare My Size Barbie outfit that I just happen to have laying around..."
The mark: "Will you leave the lasers on?"

[quote]I need a "wistle valve", the instant on off type, manual/lever controlled. 3/4" npt or bigger. Like for air horns, steam whistles,,,flame effects.......

I have a yank valve (some f'ing place around here) but it is 1/4NPT
Do you have a source of compressed air? Or are you running something else? Actually what would help is knowing what you are blowing thru, on, or up.
WHat pressure are you running and approx how many CFM does the device requirw. I have some air operated valves that just take a pilot signal (air at a tiny volume) and pass high volumes. I could throw in some panel mount toggle switch pneumatic valves to remotely actuate the valve. Just like a yank valve but it looks and operates like a common electrical toggle switch. Also have some 4-port 2-way 12 VDC solenoid valves. The ports reverse on application of 12v. Very handy. Possible to parallel them to increase vloume. I could ship that kind of stuff if you need it before or we could do it out there. I'm packing lotsa tools and spare parts to help whoever needs it.
Not sure on the 2HP motor. I know I have a baldor three phase. The VFD can take 240VAC single phase and spit out 240VAC three phase derated by a bit. What are you running with it? Also, what voltage are will you have access to out there?
Anybody know if the Super Playa Brothers are on eplaya or know how to get in touch with them? I have something I'd like to gift to them that may just blow their minds...

Yeah, lasers are COOL.
We've got a bunch. I need to rebuild the pwr sup on the 30W (Dr. Evil strength) Nd:YAG metal cutter. Then the 5W UV. Then the 10W argon-ion full spectrum + white light laser.
I'm bringing handheld red, green, blue, and violet and may score a yellow HeNe or HeCd in time.
We should spend some quality laser time together

Umm, I have a locomotive headlamp reflector. A highly polished aluminum parabolic reflector, muhahaha, that is almost 36 inches diameter muhahahaha. It is fucking magical. I was thinking of bringing it to cook with on a superstrut frame. I'm thinking strut based gimbal mount for 360 degrees traverse and a good 100 degrees elevation.
Look, up in the sky! It's a bird, it's... dinner!
Would they let me burn shit out there with the FOXCO 2000 Solar Death Ray?
Like just roll it out on the playa with some bricks and a trashcan lid and burn, I don't know, tiny effigies or ?
Or would the neighborhood platforms be better as long as we observe the 'don't burn your neighbor even if it is with a green energy source' guideline, hmm.
I've got three flamethrowers but don't think the greens will let me use the JP-8 liquid fueled rig. The others are gas, modified weed burners, commercial, 1/4 IPS 3 foot wands. Is it cool to bring this stuff on a first burn? I'm going with friends that were part of the human mousetrap last year. Could hang meats and vegetables on the chicken wire for a vertical BBQ...
But I digress.

Cool reflector.
Anything like that is okay as long as you practice reasonable safety.
Some things need permits.
No flame throwers.
However you can bring your fire cannon and flame effects.
Dustdevil is a good person to answer questions in this area.
I am moving, so unlikely I will make it this year.
Sounds like a very fun set of lasers.
I want to get a black powder cannon permitted one year.
It's a really heavy piece to haul though.

but are limited to the half inch valve we have. If we could get a larger volume, catastrophic open, valve, it could make bigger effects.
No worry about the motor, it's for here at home, actually. looking for single phase, 120V for electric concrete mixer.

But I'll limp along without them, too.

I have lumber and staplers.. masonite? how thick, how big?
I can haul stuff from here to the playa, I'll be making two trips out again this year, so, if someone can drop stuff off here, I can take it the rest of the way.
