Hi awesome artsy types!
My girlfriend Hope and I are planning on having a wedding/hand fastening ceremony on the playa this year. We also want to have some art performances by our friends after the ceremony. Among them are some aerial and silk performers. However, I have no idea what is required for suspension out in the open desert... If anyone has any experience or can point us to some useful information, we'd really appreciate it. We have no idea what kind of structure we need to provide. And if there's already something out there (I know there must be lots of aerialists performing out there anyway), that would be even better. Any info would be so very awesome. And of course, if you're willing to perform, no matter what your talent, that would be awesome as well.
Thanks!

Aerial on the playa
Welcome, Don!
Quite simply, you must provide your own EVERYTHING. Black Rock City is a blank canvas. There is nothing there but what we bring (and remove).
Perhaps someone will suggest sharing equipment, but only a tiny fraction of burners frequent this forum, so that's a real long shot.
The good news is, you may drive stakes in the ground for guy-wires to support your structure. Wind is a factor; you may not be able to perform when you wish. But a structure of steel tubing and guy-wires would be fairly safe from wind damage.
Even better, perhaps: a sturdy steel geodesic dome, and you perform inside it? Burners are used to climbing on geodesic domes as "grandstands", and you would not have to fool with guy-wires.
I'm part of a theme camp that has been on the Esplanade for God knows how many years. In 2009 we built a non-geodesic dome in our camp and rigged a silks rig from the top of the dome. We have performances and lessons in the dome. One of the guys that performs and teaches has a tripod that he sets up on the playa and performs from that. If you are serious about a rig you can check his facebook page out at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401654737 and if you want to see our dome rig check out our website http://www.automaticsubconscious.com or our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Automatic ... 6085783638
