Any arbor climbers (climbing big trees w/ long ropes)?

Post by Foxfur » Thu May 19, 2011 8:54 am

I'm into arbor climbing but have no safety buddy. my climbing buddy got my old job when I was downsized so he can go f himself :D

The link is a great site with lotsa info and cool pics.

I'm in NW Oregon. We've got some damned big cedars and firs on our land that are begging to be conquered.

It's always best to have a buddy on hand so that when you take a fall and end up with the rope around your neck someone is there to point, laugh, and take pics to use at your memorial service.

Bonus points if you have a compound bow to set throw lines in taller trees.

Never thought of tree climbing as a fetish! Why not?!
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..

Sometimes people like arborists do this and get paid for it. :)

I do tree work for friends.
You'd not believe how much professional arborists charge.
I don't charge $, so all mistakes are free!
I do accept BBQ'd tasties.
I do NOT accept BBQ'd testes.

MyLarry does the neighborhood trees, but he free climbs without a rope. Yeah, I know. He will put his chainsaw on a rope so it doesn't fall.

His mother used to pull him out of the tall bushes in the yard when he was a baby, he could climb before he could walk.

A friend of mine with marfan's was climbing flagpoles as a little kid.
He didn't even see it as anything special.

He also has overly iron rich blood.

His wide armspan seems to be part of it.

I talked to a bunch of tree guys a while back.
One guy I could spot as a climber the second I saw him.
Looks like a pro ice climber.
Something about him.

The folks who climb a lot are in very nice shape. I do not climb a lot  .

There's something magic about walking out from the trunk on a limb just a few inches in diameter and 60ft off the ground knowing you are (reasonably) safe.

There's a look to some of these guys besides that.

Somewhat amusing that my monkeyboy friend was a better climber at three years old, than I was in peak condition.
