I don't know if that means anything beyond that earthquakes are the easiest way to discover particular faults. I'm sure there's walking the landscape as well, but that's much more labor intensive. And geoscience is young enough that there's a whole lot to be discovered. Again, I'm sure some of them were discovered or tracked on some level by societies living on them, but it's not like we paid much attention to the peoples living in (for instance) Nevada.

Kinetic, you don't need to worry about all those faults. They're not near as bad as they're cracked up to be. :lol:
Here's an article from a Bay Area paper that talks about the radiation leaks from the sarcophagus that entombs Chernobyl.

I was looking for a less reliable source to "stir things up" but, I couldn't find one. :P

This seems to be a good paper showing the U.S. birth defects and deaths resulting from Chernobyl;

There is also a good link.
"
March 21, 2011 Dr. Chris Busby at European Committee on Radiation Risk (ECCR) predicts 120,000 cancers worldwide from Fukushima accident based on current known releases. He also confirmed that three spent fuel pools are burned up which puts the radiatin levels at 24,000 Hiroshimas x 3 spent pools or 72,000 times the radiation of Hiroshima is now in the atmosphere."

I saw the new reactor being built in time lapse in Sanmen.
Image
It has a cooling tank on top that can operate by gravity for days, in theory.

Standardized design.
Built from 350 prefab modules.

Not sure what to make of this. This paper speculates about a typhoon hitting Fukushima this weekend. A category 5.

This is an interesting vid by a guy driving along on dry streets. Then, in comes the tsunami. He floats around for a few minutes doing a commentary then, at the end, his car finally sinks.

The taifun hit Nagasaki yesterday. Crappy windy rainy weather. It is south of Korea now, but the eastern edge is still over Japan.
