First timer from Dallas.

Post by amydavis604 » Thu May 19, 2011 7:03 pm

Hello everyone! My friend and I will be attending for the first time this year. Unfortunately, we live in different states and so will be meeting there. Since I have to drive up by myself I am just looking for anyone in the Dallas area that may be going that needs/wants a ride. I am a female non smoker (but do not mind smokers), very laid back and fun. Also, any advice for a first timer would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi Amy,

Welcome aboard. There w/b a Rideshare link going hot under "Share Resources" about the first week in June...check in there to post for riders.

Also you have plenty of time to link up with others from Dallas...try: http://regionals.burningman.com/us_tx_dal.html

Better to know who'll be riding with you before you start out...that's a long way to travel with someone who could turn out to be an irresponsible freak!
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hi and welcome! We will be driving from Central Texas. There is a REALLY active dallas group that gets together pretty regular. Go to the link provided above, they also have a facebook group that sends out regular invites to get togethers. Show up at one of those and I bet you get to know some rather fantastic people!

Hi Amy!

The number one piece of advice is: read the Survival Guide:
http://www.burningman.com/preparation/e ... index.html

It will be augmented and updated to 2011 soon enough, but it probably wont change much and is a very helpful piece of reading (if you've never seen it before).

Welcome!

Police will be looking for drugs on your way into the event. They will pull you over for broken or inop lights. cracked winsheild. Anything. They are allowed to do a visual search standing out side of your car and if you don't permit a search they can put the dogs on you. Be sure you know your passangers and they know your rules. Its your car your responsibilty.

Jerroc, that is probably the best advice that anyone with passangers heading out to TTITD can get.

Good tip! I am not worried about myself in that respect....but I guess I do need to be careful of who rides with me and make sure I know them. I really don't want to end up with a miserable riding mate. However, I also do not want to make such a long drive alone and have been unable to convince any of my local friends into going (in fact most of them think I am insane and don't understand why I want to go). But I already have my ticket and if I have to do it alone I will! I have been wanting to go for several years and come hell or high water this is the year!

Not to put Burning Man on a pedestal, but It may change your life. And, don't try to explain it. Best of luck Amy!

If I'd waited for it to make sense to even half my nearest and dearest, I'd never have gone. :)

Even if you have to travel alone, it'll be worth it. You wont be alone once you get there!

Me either. At least a few of my friends think i'm going to hell, but I am getting AMAZING support from unexpected family members too. So, that is where I am concentrating my attention. I'm doing away with the negative nancy's impact on me and my life. See, burningman is already changing me.

Welcome!

Burning man is one of those things you just have to want to do for yourself. You can't talk people into it, and if you do you'll probably regret it. :)
