New Mexico Birgin Seeks Village to Join!

Post by CreepingJenny » Fri May 20, 2011 1:11 pm

Hey Burners,

Greetings from the Wild West! So I'm making my first pilgrimage to the Burn this year and am looking to join a village and contribute in any way necessary to benefit the camp. Although I have other friends heading to the Burn too, their villages are all full already. I am driving, and can come ENTIRELY self sufficient for the week, but being in camp would be much more preferable I imagine. A collective effort is always more efficient than an individual one! I am a student, an artist, writer, philosopher, poi enthusiast, and all-around fun gal to chill with. Who needs help in their camp in exchange for a spot as a villager? What skills/attributed do you need or want in your villagers? Hit me up, Playa People!

Peace, love, and rainbows that shower jellybeans,

Creeping Jenny

Welcome! Orphan camp is still open if that sounds like something you're interested in. :) Basically we bring all our own stuff and also have some communal shade structure(s) to hang out under/socialize.

Check out the fb link below if it sounds interesting. :)

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

I've been looking to join a camp as well although I will be doing so while I explore the playa. Don't be too worried about camping on your own I really enjoy it. Just be picky about your who you set up next to. Some camps have a fee and for very good reason. do a loot of reasearch.

Checked out Orphan Camp and Barbie Death Camp, thanks guys! I will wait for an official invite from a camp who wants a truly involved member. I will set up and tear down camp, cook, clean, chill, entertain, collaborate, and cogitate! Hit me up!
I love you like whoa!

Hi CreepingJenny. Great name. :)

It's good you're being proactive--a lot of camps don't recruit (or read these intros), waiting instead for people to find them.

Read the 2010 Survival Guide (if you haven't already, of course). 2011 Guide coming soon, though it will probably be quite similar w/ key updates.

After considerable research I have found several villages that look fab, and am contacting them individually for info on dues, responsibilities, etc. I have considered going it alone and having no ties, but the appeal of infrastructure is quite strong. Also, I'm worried about not linking up with my people on arrival; no cell service in a town of 50,000 people could seriously impede my ability to catch up with them. If I'm in a village it should be easier for my friends to find me, as many of them are planning on camping in tents on the periphery of BRC, and it won't be exactly easy to find them. The others already in villages won't be so difficult to link up with. I'm not going to wait for an invite, but rather narrow down my choices to a few camps and apply, and see what the responses are. We have a regional event coming up next weekend, so I'll be meeting some people there too who will have some advice. Thanks for the tips though!

CreepingJ, both you and your friends can register at "Playa Info" at Center Camp, and list actual as opposed to estimated locations. Before the event, many a person can only say things like "3:30 & C, probably on the corner, no promises, blue skull flagpole two white domes" and hope nothing weird happens (and it may turn out to be 4:00 & D or E . . . )

But once you're there and your tent is up, you can store your location more precisely, as "3:55 and D" and probably "facing west" or "facing east" to boot.
