Remember to read all you can, on here, on the guide, anything you can get your hands on. But also give yourself a break. you will never be fully prepared or ready for what the playa will give you. Your first time out, just go ready to completely take care of yourself.

Oh and ask, ask, ask!

Thanks! Will do! I do have one question, how would I go about joining like a community. I wouldn't mind camping by myself and befriending my neighbors but I think I would get more out of the event if I was camping with a group of experienced burners. I know I can carry my own and I wouldn't be a problem. I'm more then willing to help setup, cook, clean, share, take care. Any information would be amazing! thanks

I always recomend doing your first burn out side of a camp. I like to set up where its a little quiter and I have more choice of who my neighbors will be. You can always ride around once your there check out the camps and plan for next year.

Meeting and connecting with people on the Playa isn't hard. If you are self reliant you're golden. You'll meet some great folks and find your people among them.

If you're really set on having a "group" to belong to, consider contacting your regional peeps, and get to know the Burners near you. As you talk about your preparations, they may decide you have your shit together enough to invite you to join a camp. If not, at least you've made some initial contact.

Despite what you sometimes see here on eplaya from certain grouchy types, which I am never (sarcasm off) we are a very open community.

Just don't let me catch you ogling girls like that cartoon wolf. For that you will be duly punished. I have given public spankings before on the playa, so don't think being bright eyed and bushy-tailed wont stop me from Mrs. Robinson-ing your ass in an entirely different way!

Cam! Welcome and Its always great to see more CO burners on here!
What part of Denver are you in? I'm about I25 and Evans.
And what sorta stuff do you like to do around Denver?

Do you have your ticket yet?

When talking friends into going keep in mind, that if you convince them to go: first, if they aren't enthusiastic enough to prepare, you will have to help them along and it could easily slow down your burn. Second, in the rare event that they don't have a good time they will blame it on you for dragging them out to the desert and it could really hinder your ability to enjoy the burn. Make sure they are choosing to go because they want to go, not because you want them to go.

Oh okay thats cool, I like the Colorado flag with the burning man. I'm off of I-25 and University but will be moving back to Parker in a few weeks for a few months. (A little south of Denver) But I would be going with tops 3 others, I've been to music festivals with 2 of them like Wakarusa, and Bonnaroo. I know neither compare to the camping on the playa but at least I know they are good people to be around and that they got their shit together. The only thing holding them back is the $ as of now. I guess it would be a good idea to just solo it and get the vibe for different camps and stuff for next year. I'm probably just going to roll with it and let the cards fall as they will. I have no problems talking to strangers and meeting new people. I'm excited

Sweet!
Are you going to DU?

The loot is the hardest part. Its good though that you know you can spend that much time with them. We made the mistake our first year of camping with people that we couldn't spend 24 hours in a car with.
If there is anything that you have questions on please feel free to ask.
Did you say you have your ticket already?

Cam, what sorta stuff do you do on weekends? Being the same age living not too far from each other I wonder if we may have met at some point.

CAM:

You are living in one of the biggest and most active Burner communities outside of San Francisco. It is hard not to meet fellow Burners in Denver. Check out Facebook's Denver Burns group or www.Apogaea.com for starters.

Good Luck!

illy dilly -- I am attending Metro State College of Denver, and yes they are good bunch of guys. And I actually bought my ticket off of craigslist, so yes I'm good. Also bought a pretty sweet chopper style bicycle off the man too :D (still has playa dust on it! :o ) I wouldn't be surprised if we had ran into each other. I'm a server at Hickory House BBQ place in Parker and Aspen. You can find me at A LOT of concerts, love music! any and all music! And on the same point I like to drink so same goes with the bars! hahaha I also have DJ'd around my area for parties with one other buddy who I'm trying to get to come! I was gonna ask, we were thinking about bringing are goodies and kinda doing are own little dance party a couple of the days/nights. Is that frowned upon or is it all depending on our neighbors? Do we need to sign up to be able to do something like this? I was talking to him actually last night, not sure if we will do it this year thinking about scoping it out and maybe buying some cheaper speakers for next year so are nice ones don't get ruined. But any advice would be appreciated !

Teo del Fuego -- Aw thank you for the link, I figured Colorado had to have had a pretty good showing of people at burning man. I plan on bringing my Colorado flag and repping that by my campsite to find some other Rado's. Made a outline to put lights in of a sign that I plan on putting in front my campsite! (Camp Rado)

Clar-i-ty -- Hahaha Yes Ma'am! :P

Bob Bitchen -- Thanks!

Hell yeah! Sounds like you're on your way.
Do what ever you want! As long as you respect your neighbors. If you wanna have an all night dance party, don't camp in Hushville. If your neighbors ask you to turn it down, turn it down. But at night, you wont want to be at your camp! Especially not on your first year! The only reason you'd be at your own camp at night is to pass out.

As for DJ gear, you're right, I'd say don't worry about it your first year. You'd have to have power and protection for your gear all figured out.
Our DJ buddies plan to bring a lap top, a mixer, and I think a couple turn tables. My Co-captain of our camp has two old home stereo speakers were gonna bring. They aren't huge, they aren't production quality, and we don't car if they get destroyed. We're gonna pick up a cheap used amp off craigslist or from a pawn shop or something. Leave the good shit at home! At least until you've given it a shot to know what to do and not to do. This is our first year bringing more than a boombox, and so we're bring all the spare and scrap gear. If it goes well, we might up the ante, who knows. Depending on whats going down, you could probably come play at our camp one day. But its not my gear, so its not my decision.

Cool, Yeah I agree I just wanna see how it is and what not. I can also bring my equipment (tables, buttons, switches, laptop) other then speakers and just use yours. I totally understand not wanting people to touch your shit. Every time I have play'd at least 3 drunkies come up and ask to spin. I understand completely. I could even just invite you guys to the next party we play at and you can see whats good. If the vibes are good and we are all on the same page we should definitely throw down at burning man. or at the least send you guys some of my mixes and if you dig it I am more then happy to play. Plus I got some shitty speakers I could bring they really are not much (really) but on top of what you bring more is always merrier! I'm not worried about my tables and what not cause that all can be protected its just the speakers that need to be out and bumping. Plus I am bringing two 30' foot shade covers that we could bring some tarps to hang on the sides to cut down on the dust issue. We still got time, not worried about figuring it all out. Thanks for the advice! Enjoy yourself, see you out there! :P

Yep! I totally agree with you. We should all hang out some time soon. We will also, likely have extra space in our box truck. If you have some bigger gear (tents, folding tables, shade structure, etc) that wont fit in your vehicle, we could probably find space for it, if you're willing to pitch on gas for the box truck. Since, we will either get placed or might join an established village we'll know our exact location, so you would know where to find us out there.

Judging from the timestamp of his first post, I was busy trying to get one of my Sims a promotion to Astronaut . . .

I did feel silly saying hello so late, and thought about skipping him and starting fresh, but I didn't want Cam to think I hated him.

Well, did you do it? Have you landed on the Moon? Concurred evil aliens?

Well, I should probably PM him and explain to him that I jumped the gun and that Savannah doesn't actually hate him, she was just busy.

Busy as hell! Those Sims won't play themselves! Little jerks. Well, actually, I do play them with "Free Will" turned all the way up. But they don't work as hard without direction.

(He did get promoted to Astronaut. It's awesome.)

LOL! Damn Lazy Sims!
But if they played them selves, it would be a pretty boring game. Like watching TV, but with less dialog. Though, would probably be better than watching anything on MTV!
