'10 hopeful attendee from soggy CT with an overly long intro
hello and good morning from an overtired insomniac somnambulist student here to say hi to the burning man community. i can't wait for this year. finances have kept me in the past and only recently through a friend/professor of mine who is a repeat participant did i discover the possibility of low-income tickets. and i can't wait.
i thought i was an individual, and then i went to art class. so i can only imagine what will happen when i go to burning man. i cannot wait to experience what this event has to offer and to offer what i can to this event.
looking for other ct attendees, especially student age, past and future. or anyone, to share your best and worst memories, advice, or jokes that will make me laugh.or those who participate in making their own art installations, the possibility of making a large scale painting for the event, and tips and advice. have browsed the site but would love some first hand info. the longer i make this the less likely anyone will read it so i will end with this

Welcome.
"Student age", that's cute. We're all students of life here.
Don't try for large scale art your first year, first hand experience of the wind and dust and chaos will help shape your art into something which can survive the playa.
I worked in small scale for many years and wondered how I could bring this to the playa, feeling it would be lost in the grand scale of the monumental art. That's when I came up with my Home for Wayward Art, where people can adopt art and take it home. Took me four years to find the concept, and I love sharing art with burners.

Hello. Story sounds familiar. You wouldn't happen to go to CCSU, would you? We're doing our best to rile everyone up about it. I went for my first time last year and it was amazing.
Do get involved. Fight in Thunderdome, ride the orgasmatron, hop on art cars, make a playlist at the radio station, whatever floats your boat. I spent a lot of time walking in big circuits and not talking to people for hours. I began to feel left out, but then remembered, all I had to do was approach someone and talk and let myself get whisked off on an adventure. That's when I had my most fun.
Don't get caught up with passive aggressive campmates. Friends from home aren't necessarily the best folks to camp with. I spent a lot of time wandering because I didn't feel welcome to just hang out at my own camp. That was a pain. Try camping by yourself if you feel comfortable with it. My friend did and she had all the freedom to explore and no responsibilities of camp set up and meetings and internal drama.
Let's talk if we don't already know one another.

Hi there!
Jump in, the water is great.
My girlfriend Terri and I went last year for the first time, also from CT, and it was fantastic.
Bring your large canvas rolled and complete, and stretch it there. Consider it a gift to the festival, and try to be unworried about what kind of shape it will come home in.
I am a sculptor, and built a piece on site last year. Planning a crazy huge beautiful installation for 2010. Take a look if you like.

Hey!
I'm from connecticut too, and of college-age, haha. im going for the first time this summer! are you going to stay with a theme camp? I'm trying to find some that are up my alley, but the ones I like seem to be filling up fast. are you going with friends or by yourself?

Found this message in search and didn't realize how old it was! Anyway, I am from CT, virgin burner, and I'm driving out. I don't have passengers yet. Can take one, maybe two. Would not mind the company or sharing gas cost. I'm staying around a while after to volunteer then heading to CA, though, so the offer only helps you get out there.
I have no idea what the odds are that I'll get Greeter... if I did get it, I'd be going up a week early. I imagine the more likely scenario is that I'll be heading out around Aug. 25th. Leaving from Windsor, could pick up passenger anywhere in the state, though.
I guess I'm not "student age" anymore, but I'm a perpetual student and I'm definitely at a "Rites of Passage" stage of life, moving back to the west coast and getting in touch with existential experience in ways I have been removed from for many years.
Not sure my journey is a practical one for people to join me on based on circumstances listed, but hey, get in touch anyway if you want to. Meeting new people is always good anyway, particularly creative, expressive sorts.

I grew up in Connecticut, I went to WCSU also. And, this is sort of funny, I lived in Black Rock, a nice coastal neighborhood in crappy Bridgeport, before moving to Brooklyn.
I miss rain, the Northeast and especially NYC.
And, in one more Black Rock reference, my travel money is sitting in Black Rock (something), none of which has anything to do with the desert.
So, welcome to ePlaya and see you in BRC. I'm volunteering in Media Mecca, come say hi.
