Burning man costume a taboo?
Burning man costume a taboo?
virgin burner here wondering if wearing a costume (much like the illuminated stick man costume) is considered a taboo amongst the community? I have been watching videos on youtube to get an idea how people dress for the playa at night, and realized I havent seen any )'( type costumes... I was just wondering if it has been played out, overly common, or just an overall taboo giving the symbolic nature of the burning man and its symbol...

I can't imagine much of anything being "taboo".
if it's what you want to do......do it.
That simple.
you make your burn, how you like it.
Others opinions, are, just that.
Flow chart:
1. are you having fun: ........yes............you're doing it right.
............................................v
............................................v
...........................................no............try something else and return to step 1.

and badger, my thought was the same thing as your video, but instead of the facial expressions, it would be just the diamond... and no expression. And instead of it being litterally like a stick figure, it the arm and legs would be one piece, just like the man.. )'(
I just discovered this el wire, so my mind is exploding with ideas. Another was a business suit lined with the lights (much like i found on google), a mask with goggles, and would have the bm symbol in the back of the jacket.
this is fun!

I've seen them out there, totally cool.BBadger wrote:I've only seen them in videos actually. It'd be great to see it live. Go for it.

OP, wear what you want, or don't wear anything at all. It's your choice. The burn is your chance to go totally all out with your imagination.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Which is impossible, especially your virgin year.ygmir wrote:expect nothing!!
no expectations, is a big one.
I set my expectations my first year as:
1. I'm gonna get hot and dirty.
2. I'm going to see something that will make me say "Dude...."
3. I'm going to meet at least one very interesting person.
I rolled in Sat Morning at around 1 am on an early entry with the Boobie Bar and had all of my expectations satisfied by noon on that same Saturday, leaving me with a fresh open mind for the rest of the week.

When i first came on here I had all these ideas and was slightly discouraged by the responses of That's been done, Nothing new, etc etc. Then a very wise person reminded me that 50% of attendees are virgins for whom it's all brand new, and no one will have done it EXACTLY like I will do it. If it gives me joy in the preparation, if it expresses something from me, then NO ONE has ever seen it before anyway.
We are playing with El-wire and LED's, we are also playing with tutus and harem pants. With cowboy dusters, boots, and hats. Trying to figure out how to do an el-wire figure with a cowboy hat on (damned obnoxious Texans), and we kinda SUCK at all of it, but it's still fun lol

Try dressing like a 'frat boy' and see how you get treated.
Really, costumes are stupid. Just wear a teeshirt and no pants.
