DECISIONS DECISIONS

Post by burnmeman » Mon May 30, 2011 2:59 pm

Hey fellow lovely people..Ive got a burning Man 2011 ticket and thats where my problems start..lol...Do I camp or do I RV it? To be honest I dont think I can afford to RV unless some kind soul is prepared to subsidise 3 places in their RV for me and my two wonderful friends (cookie and Ninzy) so Im thinking camping is the way forward...So how the hell do I get a list of camps? how do i contact them? and being a hygeine freak which camps provide daily showers...lol? Thanking you in advance for your feedback people.

Keep smiling...Abid

your best bet is to pimp out your friends ninzy and cookie to first camp and hope they let you use their "Facilities"...

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

burnmeman:
you gots lots of reading to do..........get the first timers guide, survival guide, both on the main BM website.
then, read here.
you don't "need" a camp.
But, if you want one, you need to start contacting them asap for dues, rules, etc.........I believe some are listed on the main site somewhere, or links to same.
Or, here, in some of the sub-forums.

Hey Burnmeman.

I'm a hygiene freak myself. Somehow, I've survived 6 burns without RV showers; this will be my 7th. My first burn, I made do with baby wipes and ONE shower. My second, about the same. That's how significant a burn can be--it can make a cleanliness lover tolerate such things, even sort of realize that in some ways it's good for you. You realize that you don't actually smell much, in a dry heat, and neither do most other people.

If you don't find a theme camp that will provide daily showers, go to the main site (not here) and use the search function with the word "grey water". This will provide a recipe for a grey water evaporation pond that will take care of water for a very small number of people. (There are also people on this site with sophisticated systems . . . ). Make a shower cage out of PVC pipe that'll hold a shower bag, and if the PVC is not too thick, shower rings/zip ties & shower curtains will work. Stake the structure or pull it apart after use and lay it down.

All supplies could be sourced in one carefully planned trip to a Home Depot or Lowe's store, including the bleach and watering can needed to sanitize and sprinkle any water you can't evaporate (for 5 or fewer people only) and garbage bags for the dirty, wet plastic. Note: a cargo van or other large vehicle is helpful for lumber and PVC of the size you'll need.

Some people skip the shower bag altogether--many get very good at washing with clean, new garden sprayers or at scrubbing up in a concrete mixing tub with a gallon. Either way, if you generate dirty water you need something to catch the water, a barrel to pack it back out in, or an evap pond.

All very simple, what? . . . Maybe concentrate on that hardworking theme camp and pay them whatever they demand. :D

Welcome to ePlaya!
