And then we have an entire generation raised to suspect every "stranger" whom they come in contact. There are contrived dangers everywhere! Heaven forbid a child rides a bike without a helmet or play in the local pond or simply throw dirt clods at each other. I'm convinced that there is so much paranoia and insecurity, compounded by the feeding frenzy of video games and fingertip shopping, that we are indeed becoming a bunch of jumpy, distrusting, narcissistic assholes!

We as a society seem to always be on edge and ready to snap at the slightest provocation. Could it be what we're eating, what's in the airwaves or are we just evolving in to a bunch of high maintenance assholes?

What were we like as a civilization 50 years ago? Were we a kinder, more compassionate people, or am I just perceiving it that way?
Yes, but it's no secret, just poor breeding. When parents don't take the time to teach their kids manners, what do you expect? So let's not try to pin it on radio waves or technology.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Not the technology at all. It's the fact that parents find it easier to let their kids watch tv or play video games than to actually have to parent them.

The 24 hour news cycle and the fact that there are far too many tv stations competing for audience and ratings is one thing I think might be responsible for all the paranoia. But then again, they might not be watching that much tv had parents instilled different values.

Some of the blame for this has to go to our "new age" educators. They are so afraid to hurt the self esteem of the children, that there was a period when scores were not kept at sporting events. (we're all winners) Then there was the changing of grades from traditional ABCDF, to some stupid system of symbols like @+ or &-, so they didn't feel bad getting a D-. Who suggested to these educators that this was a good idea? If these kids point their finger or draw and upside down L, they are expelled for portraying a gun, and sent for therapy and some strong doses of Ritalin.

Fifty-two years ago the Princess phone was introduced. Same designer -- Henry Dreyfuss -- as the 1930 Western Electric telephone, the 1949 Bell telephone, and the 1965 Trimline telephone.

For those of you post-hippie fucks with cell-phone-cancer-obliterated memories, the Princess phone was pretty much the iPhone of its day, but way more sexy. Maybe you wouldn't have been born if your mom wasn't on her Princess phone day & night with some greaser.

Oh my yes. What a failed experiment that turned out to be.
