I do it sort of like AntiM.
Auger stakes at the legs, and I use bungees and ratchet straps, for guy wires. They are in line with the walls, and make an "X" in each bay. Brightly colored and cloth, instead of steel. Visible, and, not so injurious. One by each leg, "Xing" over to above the next leg. You can also hang stuff to dry and art and stuff, too.

Thanks so much everyone. I think I have all the info I need!
Wondering now about grommets/washers, and these auger stakes I keep reading about?
I don't know much about grommets and grommets repair. I think I'll know more once I set it up this week.
Sounds like t posts or rebar or stakes work fine. I'll prob pick the lightest. Getting concerned about having so much weight being pulled. Got a shitty v8 dodge Dakota pullig all this shit , including a small travel trailer.

And just so ya don't run out of options, those cork-screw-type dog stakes work pretty well too! Only problem is the need significant padding for the handle sticking out of the ground.

I've seen those set by hand on the playa back in the day, for radio towers. DPW rigged a Bobcat attachment to spin the smaller ones in about ten years ago.

yeah, the ones in his left hand........hold a lot, but, you have to dig/auger a hole barely bigger than that base, 6' or so deep, then, smash the top of the plate, to spread it into the virgin soil, tamp while backfilling.....once they're in, you have to dig them out. That cone expands about twice the diameter of the base.

Hire a couple of these.

You drive them in with a 'fence post driver', and you pull them out with a 'fence post puller', farm jack, or just a chain and a 2x4.

So I called about the bright yellow post driver and jack in one. 35 bux including shipping. Not bad eh? I'd say fairly in line with other drivers I saw online. I think I'm just gonna order that, and use T posts. ! Yay!
Hey tomservo. Have u actually used this one?

Over the last year you and others have helped so much. I really appreciate everyone who participates on eplaya.
Helping with dumb questions and comments is really awesome of you (and everyone) snark or not ;)
Thanks again!
What do I need for grommets? Be specific and I'll buy them ;)
How about anchoring/staking down a hexayurt?
Best bet? Building one for out camp.

Bought a Tee Post puller from Harbor Freight..It broke on the first tough post.. Has a weak spot at the pivot of the handel.. Back to the post jack..TomServo wrote:I agree!Trishntek wrote:That is so fucking HOT!Bob wrote:Hire a couple of these.

Have had the same driver for 25 years .. 2 foot of 3 inch pipe with a plate welded in the end..
Using a rotohammer tis year for rebar..
The new plan is to leave a two foot 1/2 rebar post.. So the leg of the shade structer will slip over it.. That way the leg can move up and down in the big winds..
Trying to figure a wind releif in the top of the shelter.. Maybe some 3 inch holes with screening glued in..

Re: Best rebar stakes for Costco carport? Newb here.
Nooo, don't bend your rebar - it bounces around like all f*ck when you try and hammer it in.Our rebar was welded by our neighbor, he did it at work. You can just bend them.
Re: Best rebar stakes for Costco carport? Newb here.
I welded up some 1/2 inch x 2 foot rebar. I bent and cut some 3/8 rebar with my vice.

One option is to put on a rubber stopper from a local hardware store.

Another option is to attach a light. This one from Harbor Freight. They change color.

I made some with double eyelets for holding the corner of a carport from the inside with the X strap configuration.

I have used 2 foot rebar at the post bases and duct taped the rebar to the post. We also use one or two trucker straps over the whole structure to hold the top poles down tight. Works great. I recommend cheap home depot thin all weather carpet for your floor too.
